The History of Gollum

[The movie opens with a close-up of a worm and we soon see Sméagol and his cousin Déagol in a rowingboat, on a beautiful and peaceful lake. Suddenly Déagol catches a fish with his rod, the look on his face very excited.]
Déagol: "Sméagol! I've got one! I've got a fish, Sméag!"
[Both are laughing and Sméagol watches happily as his cousin is fighting with the fishing rod.]
Déagol: "Sméagol!"
Sméagol: "Go on! Go on, pull it up!"
[Instead of pulling the fish up, it pulls Déagol into the water, creating a big splash. Sméagol remains in the rocking boat and slowly gets up and sees his cousin's hat, floating in the water.]
Sméagol: "Déagol!?"
[The scene goes under the surface of the lake and we see the big fish, caught in the hook, pulling Déagol with him, until he finally lets go of the pole. As he opens his eyes in the water, something catches his attention: The One Ring, buried partly in the sandy bottom of the lake.]
[Déagol grasps it with his hand and finally returns to the surface, getting up from the lake. As he stands on the grassy river-bank, he slowly opens his fist, inspecting the ring closer. On the background we can hear a bunch of birds leaving the surrounding trees in a hurry. As Déagol watches the One Ring, Sméagol hurries to his cousin.]
Sméagol: "Déagol! (laughing) Déagol!"
[Sméagol comes to stand behind his cousin's back and the minute he sees the somewhat muddy ring, he can't take his eyes of it. He watches it with greedy eyes.]
Sméagol: "Give us that, Déagol my love."
[Déagol closes his fist and turns around to face Sméagol.]
Déagol: "Why?"
Sméagol: "Because it's my birthday and I wants it."
[The smile on Sméagol's face fades away and he suddenly tries to snatch the Ring for himself. On the background you can hear the high-pitched call of the Ring. Sméagol tries again, but Déagol keeps dodging. They circle around each other and Sméagol's attempts are getting violent.]
[The call of the Ring sounds louder in the background and the two cousins are finally fighting for the One Ring. Sméagol bites Déagol in his arm and throws him down on the ground. The Ring falls from his grip and now lies in the grass. Both are reaching for it, the call of the Ring starting to resemble the scream of the Nazgûl. Déagol manages to get the Ring and stands up, attacking Sméagol who lets out a scream of terror as he is being strangled. However, the parts are changed and Déagol is lying on the ground again with his cousin's hands wrapped around his throat.
On the background we hear a loud beating/drumming sound that in my opinion mirrors Déagol's heart beats. With a blank face Sméagol throttles his cousin and as the drumming sound starts to slow down, we hear the Ring whisper in the background. ('One Ring to rule them all...' in the Black Speech)]
[Déagol is dead. Sméagol lets go and immediately takes the Ring for himself, admiring it with bliss written on his face.]
Sméagol: "My Precious..."
[He puts It on and disappears. The scene changes to Sméagol, scrambling amid rocks, the look on his face agonized.]
Gollum VO: "They cursed us...Murderer..."
[We see Sméagol, huddled in a dark place, biting his thumb, watching the Ring in his hand.]
Gollum VO: "Murderer they called us. They cursed us and drove us away!"
[Sméagol has already began to change into Gollum.]
Sméagol: "Gollum! Gollum! Gollum!"
[We see Gollum/Sméagol kneeling in the rain and by the looks of it, he is suffering.]
Gollum VO: "And we wept, Precious. We wept to be so alone."
[We see Gollum/Sméagol catching a fish and biting into it while it's most likely still alive. A close-up of his rotten teeth, sinking into the slimy fish.]
Gollum VO: "Fish...and we only wish...so juicy sweet..."
[Shots of Sméagol changing. In every scene he is more and more like the creature Gollum he becomes. Finally he crawls into the tunnels of the Misty Mountains.]
Gollum VO: "And we forgot the taste of bread, the sound of trees, the softness of the wind. We even forgot our own name..."
[Gollum/Sméagol sits in the caves, the Ring in his hand, his eyes pale white. He closes them, and when his eyes are opened again, it's Gollum who we are looking at. Gollum closes the Ring in his fist.]
Gollum VO: "My Prrrreciousss..."

The days are growing darker

[We see Sam, wrapped in his elven cloak, sleeping. A few meters away sits Frodo, awake. His breathing gets louder as he brings his left hand up to fiddle with the ring-chain, his face twiching. Frodo glances in Sam's direction and takes out the Ring. He twiddles it with his fingers and watches it, his breathing heavy. As Frodo hears Gollum approaching, he quickly hides the Ring. Gollum peeks into the stony alcove where the two hobbits have been resting.]
Gollum: "Wake up! Wake up!"
[Gollum shakes Sam awake.]
Gollum: "Wake up, sleepies!"
Gollum: "We must go, yess...We must go at once."
[Sam sits up and looks at Frodo's blank face.]
Sam: "Haven't you had any sleep, Mr. Frodo?"
[Frodo merely shakes his head.]
Sam: "I've gone an' had too much."
[Sam stands up and looks at the surroundings.]
Sam: "Must be getting late."
Frodo: "No, it isn't...it isn't midday yet...the days are growing darker."
[The earth shakes and rumbles as Orodruin belches out it's firey contents.]
Gollum: "Come on! Must go, no time!"
Sam: "Not before Mr. Frodo's had something to eat."
Gollum: "No time to lose, silly!"
[Sam walks to Frodo, goes through his bag and hands Frodo a pack of Lembas bread.]
Sam: "Here."
Frodo: "What about you?"
Sam: "Oh no, I'm not hungry...'least not for Lembas bread."
Frodo: "Sam..."
Sam: "All right, we don't have that much left."
Sam: "We have to be careful, or we're goin' to run out."
Sam: "You go ahead and eat that, Mr. Frodo."
[Frodo takes a bite of the Lembas bread.]
Sam: "I've rationed it. There should be enough."
Frodo: "For what?"
Sam: "The journey home."
[The hobbits look at each other, a trace of emotion playing on Frodo's face.]
[The scene changes and we see the hobbits continue their journey, Gollum leading them.]
Gollum: "Come, hobbitses! Very close now. Very close to Mordor."
Gollum: "No safe places here. Hurry!"

The Field of Victory

[With Gandalf's lead, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are riding through the Fangorn forest, towards Isengard.]
Pippin: "I feel like I'm back at the Green Dragon after a hard day's work."
Merry: "Only, you've never done a hard day's work." [both laugh]
[Merry and Pippin are sitting on the walls of Isengard, eating and smoking pipe weed. As they see Gandalf and the others emerge from the woods, Merry stands up and Pippin lifts his hand, holding a tankard.]
Merry: "Welcome, my lords, to Isengard!"
Gimli: "You, young rascals!"
Gimli: "?? you've lead us on, and now we find you feasting and...and smoking!"
Pippi: "We are sitting on the field of victory, enjoying a few well-earned comforts."
[Merry blows out a cloud of smoke in agreement.]
Pippin: "The salted pork is particulary good."
Gimli: "Salted pork?"
Gandalf: "Hobbits..."
Merry: "We're under orders! From Treebeard, who's taken over management of Isengard."
[Gandalf and the others are riding towards Orthanc in the flooded ruins of Isengard.]
Treebeard: "Young master Gandalf. I'm glad ??? wood and water, stock and stow I can master, but there's a wizard to manage here; locked in his tower."
Gandalf: "And there Saruman must remain. Under your guard, Treebeard."
Gimli: "Well, let's just have his head and be done with it!"
Gandalf: "No, he has no power anymore."
Treebeard: "The filth of Saruman is washing away. Trees will come back to live here."
[Pippin, sitting on a horse behind Aragorn, sees something in the water. He jumps down to get it.]
Treebeard: "Young trees, wild trees."
Aragorn: "Pippin!"
[Pippin sinks his hands into the water and lifts up the Palantír of Saruman.]
Treebeard: "Bless my bark!"
Gandalf: "Peregrin Took, I'll take that, my lad."
[Pippin, holding the Stone, looks at Gandalf, then at the Palantír again.]
Gandalf: "Quickly now!"
[Pippin hands the Stone to Gandalf who immediately wraps and hides it under his robes. Pippin watches after Gandalf and the Palantír as the wizard rides away from him.]

Celebration at the Golden Hall of Medusel

[A shot of Gandalf and the others riding through the plains of Rohan towards Edoras and the Golden Hall of Medusel.
The camera flies through the air and shows us Èowyn, standing outside the Golden Hall. We go inside, where King Théoden stands before his men.]
Théoden: "Tonight we remember those who gave their blood to defend this country."
[He holds out his goblet to honor the dead]
Théoden: "Hail the victorious dead!"
People of Rohan: "Hail!"
[We see Aragorn, holding a tankard. He seems to hesitate before bringing it to his lips.]
[In the next scene the people of Rohan are celebrating in the Golden Hall. We see Èowyn, holding a cup, walking towards Aragorn. He comes to stand before her and Èowyn hands him the goblet.]
Èowyn: "Westu, Aragorn, hál."
[Aragorn takes the cup and drinks as Èowyn watches him with a radiant smile on her face. He gives it back and walks away. Théoden joins Èowyn and watches Aragorn leave.]
Théoden: "I am happy for you. He is an honorable man."
Èowyn: "You are both honorable men."
Théoden: "It was not Théoden of Rohan who led our people to victory."
[Èowyn watches his uncle, the smile on her face now gone.]
Théoden: "Don't listen to me. You are young and tonight is for you."
[The smile returns to Èowyn's face. Farther away Merry and Pippin are singing about the Green Dragon and dancing on a table, tankards in their hands.]
Merry and Pippin: [This is where the song will be as soon as I can solve the words!]
[Gandalf is watching the little show of the hobbits, laughing and clapping with his hands. He is joined by Aragorn.]
Aragorn: "No news of Frodo?"
Gandalf: "No word. Nothing."
Aragorn: "We have time. Every day Frodo moves closer to Mordor."
Gandalf: "Do we know that?"
Aragorn: "What does your heart tell you?"
[Gandalf is silent and watches Aragorn, a little smile rising to his lips.]
Gandalf: "That Frodo is alive."
Gandalf: "Yes...Yes, he is alive."

...Once the Hobbitses are Dead

[Frodo, Sam and Gollum are all asleep somewhere near Minas Morgul. Gollum is talking in his sleep.]
Gollum: "Too risky...Too risky...Thiefs! They stole It from us...kill them...kill them...kill them both!"
[He wakes up with a scream.]
Gollum: "Shhh! Quiet! Musn't wake them!"
Gollum: "Musn't ruin up now!"
[Gollum crawls down from where he was sleeping and makes his way to a little pool of water.]
Sméagol: "But they knows! They knows! They suspects us!"
[The Sméagol side sits on the edge of the pool and the Gollum side looks back from the water.]
Gollum: "What's it saying, my precious, my love? Is Sméagol losing his nerve?"
Sméagol: "No! Not! Never!"
Sméagol: "Sméagol hates nasty hobbitses! Sméagol wants to see them...dead!"
Gollum: "And we will. Sméagol did it once; he can do it again."
[A flashback of Sméagol strangling Déagol at the river-bank.]
Sméagol: "It's ours!!! Ours!!!"
Sméagol: "We must get the Precious! We must get It back!"
Gollum: "Patience! Patience, my love."
Gollum: "First we must lead them to her."
Sméagol: "We lead them to the winding stairs."
Gollum: "Yes, the stairs...and then?"
Sméagol: "Up, up, up, up the stairs we go and then we come to...the tunnel."
Gollum: "And when they go in, there's no coming out."
Gollum: "She's always hungry. She always needs to feed. She must eat. All she gets is filthy orcses."
Sméagol: "And they doesn't taste very nice, does they, precious?"

Gollum: "No, not very nice at all, my love."
Gollum: "She hungers for sweeter meats..."
[Farther away Sam is waking up, slowly opening his eyes, hearing Gollum having the conversation with himself.]
Gollum: "...hobbit meat. And when she throws away the bones and empty clothes, then we will find It!"
Sméagol: "And take It for meeeee!!!"
Gollum: "For ussss."
Sméagol: "Yes, we meant, we meant for us."
Gollum: "Gollum! Gollum!"
Gollum: "The Precious will be ours...once the hobbitses are dead."
[Gollum drops a stone into the pool and as the reflection in the water becomes still again, Gollum's eyes are met by Sam's. Sam hits Gollum in the head, sending him flying through the air.]
Sam: "You treacherous little ???"
Gollum: "Argh! No! Master!"
[Frodo awakes from his sleep when he hears Gollum's screams. He hurries to help him.]
Frodo: "No, Sam! Leave him alone!"
[Frodo pulls Sam away from Gollum, who is moaning on the ground.]
Sam: "I heard it from his own mouth; he means to murder us!!!"
Gollum: "Never! Sméagol wouldn't hurt a fly!"
[Gollum presses his hand against his head and screams as he sees blood in it.]
Gollum: "He's a hobbit, fat hobbit who hates Sméagol and who makes up nasty lies!"
Sam: "You miserable little maggot! I'll throw your head in!"
[Frodo is pulling at Sam's hand, holding him back as Gollum scuttles away from him.]
Frodo: "Sam!"
sam: "Called me a liar! You're a liar!"
[Gollum screams, hiding behind a gangling tree. Frodo makes Sam face him.]
Frodo: "We scare him off, we're lost!"
Sam: "I don't care!"
Sam: "I can't do it, Mr. Frodo! I won't wait around for him to kill us!"
Frodo: "I'm not sending him away!"
Sam: "You don't see it, do you? He's a villain."
Frodo: "We can't do this by ourselves, Sam. Not without a guide."
[Sam watches Frodo with a serious face.]
Frodo: "I need you on my side."
Sam: "I'm on your side, Mr. Frodo."
Frodo: "I know, Sam. I know."
Frodo: "Trust me."
[Sam won't argue with Frodo and lowers his face.]
Frodo: "Come, Sméagol."
[Gollum crawls past Sam, looking scared and takes the hand Frodo is offering him. As he and Frodo start walking, Gollum looks back at Sam, the scared expression on his face suddenly replaiced by a cruel and scheming smirk. Sam sees this and narrows his eyes.]

I saw Him

[It is night and Aragorn is walking outside the Golden Hall, his pipe in his hands. He turns to look to his left and sees a dark figure, standing very still, a few meters away. Aragorn makes his way to Legolas, who is gazing into the direction of Mordor.]
Legolas: "The stars are veiled."
[Aragorn comes to stand beside Legolas.]
Legolas: "Something stirs in the East...A sleepless malice."
[They glance at each other.]
Legolas: "The Eye of the enemy is moving."

[In the next scene we are inside the room where Gandalf and the hobbits are sleeping. Pippin wakes up. He stands up from his bed on the floor and sneaks towards Gandalf.]
Merry: "What are you doing?"
[Pippin turns, surprised, but doesn't give Merry an answer. As he stands beside Gandalf's bed, Pippin is startled, for the wizard sleeps with his eyes open.]
Merry: "Pippin!"
[Pippin takes a closer look at Gandalf and waves a hand in front of his eyes to make sure he is asleep.]
Merry: "Pippin?"
[Merry sits up in his bed as Pippin is about to replace the Palantír in Gandalf's grip with a pot. The wizard mutters something in his sleep, causing the hobbit to draw back. Quickly Pippin snatches the Palantír, wrapped in a cloth, without disturbing Gandalf's sleep.]
Merry: "Pippin! Are you mad?!"
Pippin: "I just want to look at it! Just one more time..."
[Pippin unwraps the cloth and takes out the Stone, sweat glistening on his face.]
Merry: "Put it back!"
[With a satisfied smile on his face Pippin lowers his hands on the stone.]
Merry: "Pippin..."
[The smile on the hobbit's face soon fades as the Lidless Eye appears in the Palantír. Pippin is unable to take his hands off the Stone and starts to shake.]
Merry: "No! ...Pippin!"
[Merry watches, scared, as his friend struggles with the glowing Palantír. We see Legolas and Aragorn, still outside the
Golden Hall. Legolas turns to look at Aragorn, alarmed.]
Legolas: "He is here!"
Voice of Sauron: "I see you..."
Merry: "Pippin!!!"
[Pippin jumps up, holding the Palantír as if it were glued to his hands. We see in slow-motion as the hobbit struggles
with the flaming Stone, falling down on his back. Sauron's voice whispers in the background and Pippin cries in agony.]
Merry: "Help!!! Gandalf!"
[Finally Gandalf stirs from his sleep and jumps up from his bed. Aragorn and Legolas storm into the room as well.]
Merry: "Help him! Someone help him!"
[Aragorn snatches the Palantír from Pippin's hands but falls on his knees, taken over by it's power. Legolas tries to help his friend and holds him still.]
[Finally the Stone drops from Aragorn's hands and rolls down the floor. Gandalf takes a cloth and uses it to cover the Palantír.]
Merry: "Pippin!"
Gandalf: "Fool of a Took!"
[Gandalf sees Pippin lying on the floor, his eyes open, staring into void. He hurries to the hobbit, pushing Merry aside.]
[The wizard takes Pippin's hand into his own and presses his other hand on the hobbit's forehead. He whispers something and strokes Pippin's cheek. Finally Pippin blinks his eyes. ]
Gandalf: "Look at me."
Pippin: "Gandalf! Forgive me!"
[Pippin is about to close his eyes again, but Gandalf won't let him.]
Gandalf: "Look at me. What did you see?"
Pippin: "...A tree...There was a white tree...in a courtyard of stone...It was dead."
[A flash of the White Tree of Minas Tirith, burning.]
Pippin: "The city was burning."
Gandalf: "Minas Tirith? Is that what you saw?"
Pippin: "I saw...I saw Him!"
Pippin: "I could hear His voice in my head!"
Gandalf: "And what did you tell Him? Speak!"
Pippin: "...He asked me my name; I didn't answer."
Pippin: "He hurt me!"
Gandalf: "What did you tell Him about Frodo and the Ring?!"

The parting of Merry and Pippin

[The next day Gandalf is having a conversation with Théoden about the night's events. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are also present.]
Gandalf: "There was no lie in Pippin's eyes."
Gandalf: "A fool...but an honest fool he remains."
[Farther away sits Pippin with Merry, looking remorseful.]
Gandalf: "He told Sauron nothing of Frodo and the Ring."
Gandalf: "We've been strangely fortunate. Pippin saw in the Palantír a glimpse of the enemy's plan."
Gandalf: "Sauron moves to strike the city of Minas Trirth. His defeat at Helm's Deep showed our enemy one thing:
He knows the heir of Elendil has come forth."
Gandalf: "Men are not as weak as He supposed; there is courage still. Strength enough perhaps to challenge Him.
Sauron fears this."
[All the others are silent and listen as Gandalf continues.]
Gandalf: "He will not risk the peoples of Middle-Earth uniting under one banner."
Gandalf: "He will race Minas Tirith to the ground before he sees a King return to the throne of men."
Gandalf: "If the Beacons of Gondor are lit, Rohan must be ready for war."
Théoden: "Tell me, why should we ride to the aid of those who did not come to ours?"
[All are silent. Aragorn turns to look at Théoden.]
Théoden: "What do we owe Gondor?"
Aragorn: "I will go."
Gandalf: "No!"
Aragorn: "They must be warned!"
Gandalf: "They will be."
[Gandalf walks to where Aragorn is standing with Legolas and Gimli by his side.]
Gandalf: "You must come to Minas Tirith by other road. Follow the river and look to the Black ships."
[Aragorn meets Gandalf's eyes before the wizard turns to face the others.]
Gandalf: "Understand this: things are now in motion that cannot be undone. I ride for Minas Tirith..."
[He turns to look at Pippin.]
Gandalf: "...And I won't be going alone."
[In the next scene we are outside. Gandalf, followed by the two hobbits is making his way to the stables of Edoras.]
Gandalf: "Of all the inquisitive hobbits, Peregrin Took, you are the worst! Hurry! Hurry!"
[Merry follows Gandalf and Pippin runs behind him, trying to catch up with his friend, not really understanding what is going on.]
Pippin: "Where are we going?"
Merry: "Why did you look? Why do you always have to look!?"
Pippin: "Don't know...I can't help it!"
Merry: "You never can..."
Pippin: "I'm sorry, all right!"
[They stop and Merry turns to look at Pippin, a serious look on his face.]
Pippin: "I won't do it again."
[Merry walks to Pippin, realizing the younger hobbit is totally unaware of things.]
Merry: "Don't you understand?! The enemy thinks you have the Ring!"
[Pippin stares at Merry, a frown on his face.]
Merry: "He's going to be looking for you, Pip. They have to get you out of here."
Pippin: "And y-you're coming with me?"
[Merry doesn't answer, just walks away.]
Pippin: "Merry?"
Merry: "Come on!"
[We go inside the stables where Gandalf lifts Pippin up to sit on Shadofax's back.]
Pippin: "How far is Minas Tirith?"
Gandalf: "Three day's ride as the Nazgûl flies."
[Pippin purses his nose at the long journey.]
Gandalf: "And we better hope we don't have one of those on our tail..."
[Merry comes forth and hands Pippin a pack.]
Merry: "Here...Something for the road."
Pippin: "Last of the Longbottom Leaf."
Merry: "I know you've run out."
Merry: "You smoke too much, Pip."
Pippin: "B-but we'll see each other soon..."
[Merry glances at Gandalf, knowing how serious things actually are.]
Pippin: "Won't we?"
Merry: "I don't know."
[Pippin stares at Merry, confused, as Gandalf gets up to sit behind him. Merry takes a few steps back, his voice weakened by the lump in his throat.]
Merry: "I don't know what's going to happen..."
Pippin: "Merry!"
Gandalf: "Run, Shadofax. Show us the meaning of haste."

Pippin: "Merry!!!"
[Shadowfax gallops out of the stables and Merry runs after them. He climbs up to a watchtower, Aragorn running after him.]
Aragorn: "Merry!"
[Merry watches as Gandalf and Pippin ride away.]

Renewed Shall Be Blade That Was Broken

[We go to a beautiful and tranquil forest and see the Elves on their way to the Grey Havens. The only sound on the background is the song of the birds and the light swish of the elven-robes. We see Arwen, sitting on Asfaloth's back.]
Elrond VO: "Take her by the safest road. A ship lays anchored in the Grey Havens; it waits to carry her across the Sea."
Elrond VO: "The last journey of Arwen Undómiel."
[The party of the elves moves on. No sounds are heard. Suddenly we see a little boy in a white shirt, appear from nowhere.
He runs into the woods (almost in slow-motion).]
[Arwen turns to look at the boy and before her eyes, opens a vision of a grey-haired Aragorn, running to the little boy who is Eldarion, their son. Aragorn takes Eldarion in his arms and spins him around, both are laughing.]
[Arwen watches this, tears forming in her eyes. Aragorn kisses his son who then turns his face in Arwen's direction, meeting her eyes. We see that Eldarion is carrying Evenstar around his neck.
[Eldarion continues to stare at his mother and finally a single tear rolls down Arwen's cheek and she closes her eyes.]
[A flashback of Elrond in The Two Towers.]
Elrond: "There is nothing for you here, only death."
[Arwen opens her eyes again and the vision is gone. One of the elves (Figwit for fangirls) walks to Arwen.]
Figwit: "Lady Arwen, we cannot delay."
[Without saying a word, Arwen makes Asfaloth turn back, intenting to return to Rivendell.]
Figwit: "My lady!"
[In the next scene we see Arwen arrive in the now deserted Rivendell where her father sits alone, writing something with  a quill. He turns and watches as Arwen throws her velvet robe to the ground and hurries to her father.]
Arwen: "Tell me what you have seen!"
Elrond: "Arwen!"
Arwen: "You have the gift of foresight, what did you see?"
Elrond: "I looked into your future and I saw death."
Arwen: "There is also life."
Arwen: "You saw there was a child. You saw my son."
[Elrond turns his back at his daughter and leans against a railing and looks at the silent Rivendell.]
Elrond: "That future is almost gone."
Arwen: "But it is not lost!"
[Elrond sits down, a dark expression on his face.]
Elrond: "Nothing is certain."
[Arwen kneels before her father]
Arwen: "Some things are certain."
Arwen: "If I leave him now, I will regret it forever."
Arwen: "It is time."
[We see a hooded Arwen, walking to the Shards of Narsil.]
Arwen VO: "From the ashes of fire shall be woken, a light from the shadow shall spring, renewed shall be Blade that was broken."
[A shot of Isildur cutting the Ring from Sauron's hand.]
Arwen VO: "The crownless again shall be King."

Arwen: "Re-forge the Sword...Ada." ['Ada' = 'Father']
[Elrond turns away and we see Arwen sit down on a bed, holding a book in her hands, her breathing suddenly loud. She stares as the book in her hands drops to the ground.]
[Elrond walks to his daughter and picks up the book. He takes Arwen's hands into his own.]
Elrond: "Your hands are cold."
Elrond: "The life of the Eldar is leaving you."
[Arwen and her father look at each other.]
Arwen: "This was my choice."
[Elrond has tears in his eyes as Arwen continues.]
Arwen: "Ada, whether by your will or not, there is no ship now that can bear me hence."
[We see Elrond walking in the nightly Rivendell as the Andúril is being made. From the shards of Narsil, two elves forge the Flame of the West.]

The Steward of Gondor

[We see Gandalf and Pippin ride Shadowfax through plains and forests, making their way to Minas Tirith.]
Gandalf: "We've just passed into the realm of Gondor."
[They ride up a hill and finally the White City stands before their eyes.]
Gandalf: "Minas Tirith - city of kings."
[We see beautiful camera shots of Gandalf and Pippin riding through the streets of the seven-tiered citadel.]
Gandalf: "Make way!"
[Finally they reach the top level. Pippin notices the White Tree, now dead.]
Pippin: "It's the tree! Gandalf! Gandalf!"
Gandalf: "Yes, the White Tree of Gondor. The Tree of the King."
Gandalf: "Lord Denethor, however, is not a king. He is a steward only; a caretaker of the throne."
[As they stand before the doors of the throne room, Gandalf stops and looks at Pippin.]
Gandalf: "Now, listen carefully: Lord Denethor is Boromir's father. To give him news of his beloved son's death will be most unwise."
Gandalf: "And don't mention Frodo."
Gandalf: "And say nothing of Aragorn either."
[Gandalf is about to enter, but stops and once more, turns to look at Pippin.]
Gandalf: "In fact, it's better if you do not speak at all, Peregrin Took."
[Pippin nods and they enter through the doors. Inside the hall sits Denethor, his face lowered, the broken Horn of Gondor in his hands. Gandalf walks towards him.]
Gandalf: "Hail, Denethor son of Ecthelion, lord and steward of Gondor."
[Denethor remains silent and stares at the broken horn in his hands.]
Gandalf: "I come with tidings in this dark hour."
Gandalf: "And with counsel."
[Finally Denethor looks up.]
Denethor: "Perhaps you come to explain this."
Denethor: "Perhaps you come to tell me why my son is dead."
[Pippin sees the broken horn and remembers how Boromir died to save him and Merry.]
Pippin: "Boromir died to save us; my kinsman and me."
[Gandalf glances down at Pippin.]
Pippin: "He fell defending us from many foes."
Gandalf: "Pippin!"
[The hobbit walks to Denethor and kneels before him. Denethor watches him with a serious face.]
Pippin: "I offer you my service, such as it is."
[Gandalf closes his eyes, but doesn't interfere.]
Pippin: "In payment of this debt."
[Denethor stares at Pippin and finally Gandalf knocks the hobbit with his staff.]
Gandalf: "Get up!"
Gandalf: "My lord, there will be a time to grieve for Boromir."
Gandalf: "But it is not now."
Gandalf: "War is coming."
[Denethor remains silent, his face lowered.]
Gandalf: "The enemy is on your doorstep!"
Gandalf: "As steward you're charged with the defence of the city! Where are Gondor's armies?!"
[Denethor stares at Gandalf.]
Gandalf: "You still have friends. You are not alone in this fight."
Gandalf: "Send word to Théoden of Rohan. Light the Beacons."
Denethor: "You think you are wise, Mithrandir."
Denethor: "Yet for all your subtleties, you have not wisdom."
Denethor: "Do you think the eyes of the White Tower are blind? I have seen more than you know."
Denethor: "With your left hand you would use me as a shield against Mordor! And with your right, you seek to supplant me!"
Denethor: "I know who rides with Théoden of Rohan."
Denethor: "Oh yes, word has reached my ears of this Aragorn son of Arathorn, and I tell you now: I will not bow to this ranger from the North!"
Denethor: "'Last of a ragged house long bereft of lordship."
Gandalf: "Authority is not given to you to deny the return of the king, Steward!"
[Denethor jumps up from his chair.]
Denethor: "Rule of Gondor is mine and no other's!!!"
[Pippin stares at Denethor, bewildered. Gandalf truns to leave and walks away.]
Gandalf: "Come!"
[Pippin follows the wizard out of the throne room.]

A conversation on the balcony

[On the following night in Minas Tirith, Gandalf is standing out on a balcony, smoking his pipe and looking into the direction of Mordor. Near by Pippin is inspecting the armour he has been given.]
Pippin: "So I imagine this is just a ceremonial position...I mean, they don't actually expect me to do any fighting?"
[He puts the sword back to its sheath and looks at Gandalf]
Pippin: "Do they?"
Gandalf: "You're in the service of the Steward now, you're going to have to do as you're told."
Gandalf: "...Peregrin Took, Guard of the Citadel."
[Pippin walks to the railing of the balcony and leans against it.]
Pippin: "It's so quiet..."
Gandalf: "It's the deep breath before the plunge."
Pippin: "I don't want to be in a battle..."
Pippin: "But waiting on the edge of one I can't escape is even worse!"
[Gandalf comes to stand beside the hobbit and Pippin turns his face up to look at the wizard.]
Pippin: "Is there any hope, Gandalf? For Frodo and Sam."
Gandalf: "There never was much hope..."
[Pippin's face turns serious and he looks at Gandalf.]
Gandalf: "Just a fool's hope."
[Gandalf turns his face in the direction of Mordor, where the night sky is painted red by Orodruin.]
Gandalf: "Our enemy is ready. His full strength's gathered."
[A shot of Mûmakil, making their way to Minas Tirith.]
Gandalf: "Not only orcs but men as well, legions of Haradrim from the South."
[A shot of the Corsairs of Umbar.]
Gandalf: "Mercenaries from the Coast. All will answer Mordor's call."
Gandalf: "This will be the end of Gondor as we know it."
Gandalf: "Here the hammerstroke will fall hardest."
[A shot of Osgiliath.]
Gandalf: "If the river is taken, if the ??? in Osgiliath falls, the last defence of this city will be gone."
Pippin: "But we have the White Wizard, that's got to count for something."
[The smile on Pippin's face fades as he is met by Gandalf's serious eyes.]
Pippin: "Gandalf?"
[We see how in Minas Morgul the Witch-king of Angmar is getting ready for he battle. He pulls on his iron gloves and covers his faceless head with an atrocious helmet.]
Gandalf: "Sauron is yet to reveal His deadliest servant, the one who will lead Mordor's armies to war."
Gandalf: "The one they say no living man can kill."
Gandalf: "The Witch-king of Angmar!"
Gandalf: "You've met him before."
[Gandalf and Pippin look at each other as the wizard continues.]
Gandalf: "He stabbed Frodo on Weathertop."
[As Pippin remembers the incident, we get a quick flashback of Frodo in the Fellowship of the Ring as he is being stabbed with a Morgul blade.]
Gandalf: "He is the lord of the Nazgûl, the greatest of the Nine. Minas Morgul is his lair."

Minas Morgul

[As Gandalf and Pippin are having the conversation on the balcony in Minas Tirith, at the same time in Minas Morgul, Gollum is leading the two hobbits to the winding stairs. They crouch next to the road, right before the bridge, and look into the direction of the Nazgûl city that glows with eerie green light. Everything is silent and no movement can be seen anywhere.]
Gollum: "The Dead City."
Gollum: "Very nasty place..."
Gollum: "Full of...enemies!"
[Gollum glances at Sam, giving him a meaningful look, then jumps up on the road. Frodo and Sam follow.]
Gollum: "Quick! Quick!"
Gollum: "They will see! They will see!"
[As they sneak across the road, Sam follows Gollum who is already climbing the rocky wall, off the road. Frodo, however, stops on the side of the road and stares at one of the creepy statues, placed on both sides of the road where the bridge, leading to the city gates, starts.]
Gollum: "Come away! Come away!"
[Slowly Frodo turns and walks to Sam. They look up to where Gollum is sitting on a rock, pointing at the stairs.]
Gollum: "Look, look, we've found it: the way into Mordor!"
Gollum: "The secret stairs."
[The camera follows the steep stairs, cut in the rock wall.]
Gollum: "Climb...!"
[The hobbits stare at the impossible-looking stairs, but as Sam moves to climb them, Frodo once again turns to look at the Dead City.]
[He loses himself to the will of the Ring and slowly starts to stagger towards the bridge, unable to stop himself.]
[With his right hand he is clutching the Ring and on the background we can hear whispers and the high-pitched voice of the Ring. Farther away Sam and Gollum finally see what's going on.]
Sam: "No! Mr. Frodo!"
Gollum: "Not that way!!!"
[Gollum cries in terror as Frodo already staggers on the bridge, ignoring Sam and Gollum who are running after him.]
Gollum: "What's it doing?!"
[Sam hurries to Frodo and grabs him by his elven cloak and pulls him back. Frodo tries to resist, but is held back.]
Frodo: "No!...They're calling me..."
[Even Gollum starts to pull at Frodo's hand to keep him from walking to the gates of Minas Morgul. As they pull him back from the bridge, the air is starting to fill with menacing rumble, coming from inside the city. The earth shakes and they all fall down.]
[Suddenly everything goes silent and then, with a huge pressure wave-like sound, from the middle of the city, erupts a column of green-blue light that goes straight to the cloud-filled sky.]
[As Frodo watches this, he brings his hand up to clutch the Ring around his neck.]
[At the same time in Minas Tirith, Gandalf and Pippin are standing on the balcony, looking into the direction of
Mordor. Gandalf leans back from the railing and with a serious face, watches the green ray of light in the sky above Minas Morgul.]
[In Minas Morgul the earth shakes and thundery sounds fill the air. Frodo presses himself into Sam's arms and
Gollum tries to get off the road.]
[At the same time in Minas Tirith, the soldiers and civilians are watcing the events in Minas Morgul. Gandalf and Pippin are still standing on the balcony. Pippin is terrified and turns to look at Gandalf. The wizard sees that the hobbit is scared and wraps an arm around his shoulder.]
[We go back to Frodo and Sam who have managed to hide behind some rocks. Sam peeks from his hiding place and Frodo, too, pushes himself up to look into the direction of the city.]
[They see how the Witch-king, riding his Fell beast, finally comes out of Minas Morgul.]
[As Frodo sees him, he suddenly slumps down, clenching his teeth in pain. The wound on his shoulder, given by the Witch-king, aches. As the Lord of the Nazgûl lets out a shattering scream, both hobbits cry out and cover their ears. ]
[The scream continues and continues, and Frodo is unable to keep his hands on his ears, the look on his face agonized, his breathing ragged.]
Frodo: "I can feel his blade!"
[Frodo grits his teeth and growls in pain as the Witch-king's scream sounds in the air. We see how the gates of the city open and an army starts to march out.]
[We go to Gandalf and Pippin.]
Gandalf: "We come to it at last..."
Gandalf: "The great battle of our time."
[We see how the huge army marches forward along the bridge, right past the place where Frodo, Sam and Gollum are hiding, watching them.]
[The Witch-king sets out with his Fell beast and as he flies right past the hobbits, they press their heads down.]
Gollum: "Hurry, hobbits! We climb! We must climb!"
[The three of them start to climb the stairs as the army continues to march below them.]
[Back to Gandalf and Pippin.]
Gandalf: "The board is set."
Gandalf: "The pieces are moving."

The Beacons of Gondor

[It is dawn and Gandalf is leading Pippin on the streets of Minas Tirith.]
Gandalf: "Peregrin Took, my lad. There is a task now to be done."
Gandalf: "Another opportunity for one of the Shire-folk to prove their great worth."
[Gandalf stops and kneels in front of Pippin, placing his hand on the hobbit's shoulder.]
Pippin: "You must not fail me."
[With a serious face Pippin leaves to light the beacon. We then go to Osgiliath. Along the River Anduin, troops of orc are nearing the city with their boats.]
Orc leader: "Quiet."
[In the city, Faramir and his men are preparing for the attack.]
Faramir: "To the river! Quick!"
Orc leader: "Faster!"
[The orcs row faster and the boats get closer to Osgiliath. We can see that the amount of the orc isn't few. Inside the city the men are running to their posts.]
Orc leader: "Draw swords!"
[The orcs finally arrive at the city and start running to the shore. Faramir, leaning against a wall, watches as the orcs run right past him and his men. They wait for the right moment. Finally Faramir runs forth from his hide and the battle begins. The men defend their city as more orcs arrive with their boats.]
[We go back to Minas Tirith where Pippin climbs up to the tower to light the beacon. It is guarded by two Gondorian soldiers, but they don't see the hobbit.]
[Pippin climbs onto the pile of wood and finally manages to light the fire. The soldiers jump up as they see the beacon is lit.]
[Below, on the street, Gandalf smiles as he sees that the hobbit has succeeded. He runs to see how the chain of the seven beacons starts to light up.]
Gandalf: "Amon Dîn."
Soldier: "The Beacon! The Beacon of Amon Dîn is lit!"
[We see a glimpse of Denethor as he watches the situation with a dark look on his face.]
Gandalf: "Hope is recruit."
[A beautiful and breathtaking scene, showing us how one by the one the Beacons of Gondor are lit, 'The White Tree' playing triumphantly on the background. The camera flies through the air, over snowy mountain peaks, during day- and night- time, showing us how the chain of beacons light up in fire, until at last, we arrive at Edoras. It is daytime again and Aragorn is standing outside. He sees the burning sign and immediately turn around and runs to inform King Théoden.]
Aragorn: "The Beacons of Minas Tirith! The Beacons are lit!"
Aragorn: "Gondor calls for aid!"
[Théoden remains silent and farther away, we see Èowyn come stand beside her brohter. Everyone is waiting for the King's answer.]
Théoden: "And Rohan will answer."
Théoden: "Muster the rohirrim!"
[Èomer bows and leaves to gather up the riders. We go outside and see the people prepare for leaving. Théoden is talking to Èomer.]
Théoden: "Assemble the army at Dunharrow; as many men as can be found. You have two days."
[Èomer nods, but is stopped by his uncle.]
Théoden: "On the third, we ride for Gondor. And war."
Théoden: "Gamling, make haste across the Riddermark. Summon every ablebodied man to Dunharrow."
[The scene goes to Aragorn, who is securing his gear on Brego. Èowyn joins him, leading a horse with her.]
Aragorn: "You ride with us?"
Èowyn: "Just to the encampment. It's tradition for the women of the court to farewell the men."
[Aragorn looks at Èowyn, walks to her horse and lifts up the folded blanket, revealing a sword. Èowyn pulls it down.]
Èowyn: "The men have found their captain, they will follow you into battle, even to death."
Èowyn: "You have given us hope."
[We see the women and children of Rohan saying good bye to the men. King Théoden watches as the flag of Rohan flaps in the air. He watches the people of Rohan.]
Théoden VO: "So it is before the walls of Minas Tirith, the doom of our time will be decided."
[We see Aragorn get on Brego's back as Èomer talks to the riders.]
Èomer: "Now is the hour, Riders of Rohan, oaths you have taken! Now, fulfil them all! To Lord and Land!"
[We see as the Riders of Rohan, led by their king, leave Edoras. Merry, too, is with them.]

Defeat at Osgiliath

[The desperate battle at Osgiliath continues. Faramir and his men fight bravely but are on the losing side. The orcs are everywhere and men fall down, dead. We see Faramir running to Madril, dozen orcs coming after him.]
Madril: "Faramir!"
[Faramir sees the archers, ready to shoot, and jumps out of the way. The orcs coming after him receive a volley of arrows.]
Madril: "We can't hold them! The city is lost."
[Faramir looks around him and agrees.]
Faramir: "Tell the men to break cover. We ride to Minas Tirith."
[More men are being killed and suddenly the scream of the Nazgûl reaches the soldier's ears.]
Gondorian soldier: "Nazgûl..."
[The Nazgûl, with their Fell beast circle over the city. The Fell beast grab men with their huge claws.]
Gondorian soldier: "Take cover!"
Faramir: "Pull back! Pull back to Minas Tirith!"
[With Faramir's lead, the men retreat. Madril gets badly wounded and falls behind. The Nazgûl keep attacking as the men ride away with their horses.]
Faramir: "Retreat! Retreat!"
[We see Madril lying on the ground, almost dead. The orcs come to stand around him and he watches as the ugly-faced leader of the orcs takes a spear and crushes it into his chest, killing him.]
Orc leader: "The age of men is over. The time of the orc has come."
[We see the surviving soldiers ride away from Osgiliath in a hurry, the Nazgûl coming after them. The Fell beast keep flying around the men, lifting them from their horses with their claws, then throwing them to the ground.]
[We then see Gandalf, riding with Shadowfax, Pippin with him. From Minas Tirith, he rides to the aid of the men.
The Gondorian soldiers and the civilians are watching him from the walls.]
Gondorian soldier: "It's the White Rider!"
[Shadowfax carries them closer to where the three Nazgûl are still attacking Faramir and his men. When everything looks hopeless, Gandalf rises his staff and a bright, white light beams from the head.]
[The light drives away the Nazgûl and the men are safe to ride into Minas Tirith. Once inside the gates, Faramir rides to Gandalf.]
Faramir: "Mithrandir! They broke our defences, they've taken the bridge in the Westbank. Batallions of orcs are crossing the river."
Gondorian soldier: "It is as Lord Denethor predicted! Long has he foreseen this doom!"
Gandalf: "Foreseen and done nothing!"
[Gandalf turns around with Shadowfax, revealing Pippin who is sitting in front of him. As Faramir sees the hobbit, he stares at him. Pippin notices he is being stared at and tries to lower his face.]
Gandalf: "Faramir?"
Gandalf: "This is not the first halfling to have crossed your paths?"
Faramir: "No..."
[Pippin looks up, the look on his face getting brighter.]
Pippin: "You've seen Frodo and Sam!?"
[Faramir nods at Pippin.]
Gandalf: "Where!? When?!"
Faramir: "In Ithilien, not two days ago."
[Pippin turns to look at Gandalf, both look happy and relieved.]
Faramir: "Gandalf, they're taking the road to the Morgul Vale."
[The smile on Gandalf's face fades and he looks at Faramir, his eyes filling with worry.]
Gandalf: "And then the Pass of Cirith Ungol?"
[Faramir nods silently.]
Pippin: "What does that mean? What's wrong?!"
Gandalf: "Faramir, tell me everything."

The Winding Stairs

[High above Minas Morgul, Frodo, Sam and Gollum are climbing the winding stairs. For the small hobbits, the steep stairs are a huge trial. As Frodo climbs up, he almost falls, losing his footing.]
Gollum: "Careful, master! Careful!"
Gollum: "Very far to fall!"
[Gollum is the first one to finish climbing and he pulls himself up to a small landing. He turns to look down at Frodo and
Sam who are still climbing.]
Gollum: "Very dangerous on the stairs..."
[Finally Frodo reaches the ledge. He tries to get a good grip to pull himself up.]
Gollum: "Come, master!"
[As Frodo is trying to pull himself up, the Ring falls out from under his shirt. Gollum watches it with gleaming eyes.]
Gollum: "Come to Sméagol!"
[Slowly he reaches out with his right hand, his fingers moving towards the Ring around Frodo's neck. The call of the Ring can be heard on the background, not at all enticing, but more like it's ordering Gollum to take It. He almost has his hand on the Ring when Sam, right behind Frodo, sees what he's up to.]
Sam: "Mister Frodo!"
[Sam pulls out his sword and Gollum frowns at him.]
Sam: "Get back, you! Don't touch him!"
[Gollum is fighting with his urge to take the Ring, but at the last moment, grips Frodo's hand instead of the Ring. Frodo is pulled up by Gollum.]
Gollum: "Why does he hates poor Sméagol?! What has Sméagol ever done to him?!"
[Sam is still struggling in the stairs and Gollum moves closer to Frodo who is lying on the ground, catching his breath.]
Gollum: "Master..."
[Gollum strokes Frodo's arm and speaks with a whispering voice.]
Gollum: "Master carries a heavy burden...Sméagol knows...Heavy, heavy burden..."
[Behind them, Sam is pulling himself up to the landing.]
Gollum: "Fat one cannot know."
[Gollum moves to lie beside Frodo, his face only inches away from Frodo's as he continues.]
Gollum: "Let Sméagol look after master."
[Sam, still partly over the ledge, watches as Gollum is whispering to the weary and mixed up Frodo.]
Gollum: "He wants It. He needs It, Sméagol sees it in his eyes!"
[Frodo is listening to Gollum, already starting to doubt Sam's trustworthiness.]
Gollum: "Very soon he will ask you for It! You will see!"
[Frodo's eyes are filled with doubt and confusion.]
Gollum: "The fat one will take It from you!"
[With this Frodo turns around, looking at Sam with suspicion in his eyes, clutching the Ring protectively.]

The Steward and his Son

[We are in Osgiliath. The Witch-king of Angmar, with his Fell Beast, sitting up in the top of a tower, watches the ruined city. The ugly-faced orc commander comes to see him.]
Witch-king: "Send forth all legions. Do not stop the attack until the city is taken. Slay them all."
Orc commander: "What of the wizard?"
Witch-king: "I will break him."
[We go to Minas Tirith and see Gandalf, on the wall, watching the fields with Gondorian guards.]
Guard#1: "Where are Théoden's riders?"
Guard#2: "Will Rohan's army come?"
Guard#2: "Mithrandir?"
Gandalf: "Courage is the best defence you have now."
[We go inside the castle where Pippin is giving his oath to Denethor. Faramir is standing on the background.]
Pippin: "Here do I swear fealty and service to Gondor. In peace or war, in living or dying..."
[Pippin is having trouble remembering what to say. This amuses Denethor and he gives the hobbit a smile.]
Pippin: "F-From...From this hour henceforth, until my lord release me, or death take me."
[Denethor stands up and walks to Pippin.]
Denethor: "And I shall not forget it. Nor fail to reward that which is given."
[Denethor holds out his hand and Pippin closes his eyes and quickly kisses the man's ring. Denethor cups Pippin's face and makes him look up.]
Denethor: "Fealty with love."
[Denethor makes his way to a table that is set near by.]
Denethor: "Valor with honor, disloyalty with vengeance."
[Denethor looks at Faramir and sits down. He eyes his son as he starts to fill his plate.]
Denethor: "I do not think we should so lightly abandon the outer defences. Defences that your brother long held intact."
Faramir: "What would you have me do?"
Denethor: "I will not yield the river in Pelennor unfought. Osgiliath must be re-taken."
Faramir: "My lord, Osgiliath is over-run."
Denethor: "Much must be risked in war."
Denethor: "Is there a captain here who still has the courage to do his lord's will?"
[Pippin looks at Denethor, then turns to look at Faramir, confused. Faramir watches his father with a saddened expression.]

Faramir: "You wish now that our places have been exchanged."
Faramir: "That I had died and Boromir had lived."
[Denethor is silent before answering, the expression on his face serious.]
Denethor: "Yes, I wish that."
[With this, he brings a goblet to his lips and drinks. Faramir looks at his father, tears forming in his eyes.]
Faramir: "Since you're robbed of Boromir, I will do what I can in his stead."
[Faramir bows to his father and turns around to leave. Pippin watches as Faramir walks away. Denethor merely sits with the wine goblet in his hands and is silent. Faramir stops and turns to look at Denethor.]
Faramir: "If I should return, think better of me, father."
Denethor: "That will depend on the manner of your return."

Go Home

[Frodo, Sam and Gollum are taking a rest very high above Minas Morgul, on a small ledge in the cliff. Sam tries to keep and eye on Gollum, but finally sleep takes over. Gollum, who was only pretending to be asleep, opens his eyes. He gets
up, crawls down from where he was sleeping and opens Sam's bag and takes out the last pack of Lembas bread.]
Gollum: "Ugh..."
[He unwraps the pack and scatters some crumbs on Sam's elven cloak. Gollum moves to the ledge and throws down the pack of Lembas bread and only seconds later, Sam awakes.]
Sam: "What are you up to?"
[Gollum turns, surprised.]
Sam: "Sneakin' off, are we?"
Gollum: "S-sneaking? Sneaking!?"
Gollum: "Fat hobbit is always so polite."
Gollum: "Sméagol shows them secret ways that nobody else could find, and they say sneak! Sneak!!!"
Gollum: "Very nice friend, oh yes, my precious, very nice friend!
Sam: "All right! All right!"
Sam: "You just startled me, that's all."
[Sam looks down from where he is standing, trying to see if anything looks suspicious.]
Sam: "What were you doing?"
Gollum: "...Sneaking."
Sam: "Fine. Have it your own way."
[Sam kneels down to wake up Frodo.]
Sam: "I'm sorry to wake you, Mr. Frodo. We have to be moving on."
[Slowly Frodo gets up, his voice sounding wearied.]
Frodo: "It's dark still..."

Sam: "It's always dark here."
[Sam looks into his bag, finding nothing but the empty pack where their Lembas bread used to be.]
Sam: "It's gone!"
Sam: "The elven bread!"
Frodo: "What?! That's all we have left!"
[Sam stands up and turns to look at Gollum, who is squatting a little higher up, merely scratching his head.]
Sam: "He took it! He must have!"
Gollum: "Sméagol?! No, no, not poor Sméagol! Sméagol hates nasty elf-bread."
Sam: "You're a lying rat! What did you do with it!?"
[Frodo looks at Sam with suspicion in his eyes.]
Frodo: "He doesn't eat it."
[He gets up and stands before Sam, a frown on his face.]
Frodo: "He can't have taken it!"
Gollum: "Look! What's this?"
[Gollum wipes away the crumbs of Lembas bread from Sam's shoulder.]
Gollum: "Crumbs on his jacketses! He took it!"
[Frodo is starting to doubt Sam's word and looks at him with a confused expression on his face. Sam is speechless. Gollum jumps down and kneels in Frodo's feet.]
Gollum: "He took it! I've seen him! He's always stuffing his face when Master's not looking!"
Sam: "That's a filthy lie!!!"
[The angered Sam hits Gollum and causes him to fall down. He gets down on his knees and starts to strangle Gollum.]
Sam: "You stinkin' two-faced sneak!"
[Frodo watches, confused, as Sam is beating up Gollum.]
Frodo: "Sam! Stop it! Sam!"
[Frodo finally interferes and uses the little strength he has to pull Sam away from Gollum.]
Sam: "I'll kill him!"
Frodo: "Sam! No!!!"
[With this, Frodo's eyes roll back and he sinks down on the ground, Sam's hands still on his shoulders.]
Sam: "Oh my! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it to go so far! I was just so, so angry..."
[Sam, looking alarmed, watches Frodo who has spent all his strength.]
Sam: "Here, just...let's just rest a bit."
Frodo: "I'm alright."
Sam: "No. No you're not alright. You're exhausted. It's that Gollum! It's this place! It's that thing around your neck!"
[At the mention of the Ring, Frodo's eyes widen and a frown rises to his face. Slowly he turns to look at Sam, the look on his face somewhat disgusted.]
Sam: "I could help a bit! I could carry it for a while."
[We see a close-up of Frodo's narrowed eyes as he watches Sam, all of his words sounding suspicious in his mind.]

Sam: "Carry it for a while...I could carry it...carry it...share the load...the load..."
[Frodo watches Sam, the words echoing in his mind and suddenly pushes him away.]
Frodo: "Get away!!
Sam: "I don't wanna keep it!"
[The angry and confused Frodo stands up and watches Sam, who is lying on the ground.]
Sam: "I just wanna help..."
[Gollum, peeking from behind Frodo's back, gives Sam a satisfied and evil smile.]
Gollum: "See! See! He want's It for himself!"
[Frodo turns his face in Sam's direction again, finally fully believeing Gollum's word over Sam's.]
Sam: "Shut up, you! Go away!"
[Sam stands up, receiving a mean grimace from Gollum.]
Sam: "Get out of here!"
Frodo: "No, Sam...It's you..."
[Sam slowly looks up to meet Frodo's eyes, not believeing what he's hearing, tears forming in his eyes.]
Frodo: "I'm sorry, Sam..."
Sam: "But he's a liar! He's poisoned you against me!"
Frodo: "You can't help me anymore."
Sam: "...You don't mean that..."
[They look at each other in silence and with a blank face, Frodo finally says the words that will break
Sam's heart.]
Frodo: "Go home."
[Sam watches Frodo and the tears in his eyes finally fall and roll down his cheeks. He sinks down on the ground and starts to cry aloud, his heart broken. Frodo continues his journey without Sam.]

All Shall Fade

[In Minas Tirith Faramir and a small host of Gondorian soldiers prepare to re-take Osgiliath, the 'Steward of Gondor' playing on the background. As they ride on the streets of the city, the people of Gondor have gathered on the sides and watch as they go. Not a single happy face is seen in the crowd, everyone is grieved. People are throwing flowers on the street and hand them to the soldiers.]
Gandalf: "Faramir! Faramir!"
[Gandalf squeezes himself through the crowd and comes to walk beside Faramir and his horse.]
Gandalf: "Your father's will has turned to madness!"
Gandalf: "Do not throw away your life so rushedly!"
Faramir: "Where does my allegiance lie, if not here?"
[Gandalf stops and watches as Faramir rides away.]
Gandalf: "Your father loves you, Faramir!"
Gandalf: "He will remember it before the end."
[Faramir and the soldiers finally ride through the gates of Minas Tirith. They form a line and ride towards Osgiliath and the people of Gondor are watching from the walls. We see how the orcs in the ruined Osgiliath rise their heads and see the approaching men.]
[As his son rides to his doom, Denethor sits inside the castle and eats. Pippin is with him, dressed in his guardsman uniform.]
Denethor: "Can you sing, master hobbit?"
Pippin: "Well...yes. At least well enough for my own people."
Pippin: "But we have no songs for great halls and ...evil times."
Denethor: "And why should your songs be unfit for my halls?"
Denethor: "Come, sing me a song."
[Pippin looks up and watches as Denethor bites into a tomato, the juices running down his chin. He takes a breath and begins to sing as Denethor continues to eat.]
Pippin: "Home is behind, the world ahead..."
[A shot of Faramir and his men, riding towards Osgiliath. The orcs prepare to shoot arrows.]
Pippin: "And there are many paths to tread..."
[As his son rides on, Denethor merely eats, his face empty of emotion. We see Faramir pull out his sword.]
Pippin: "Through shadow, to the edge of night. Until the stars are all alight."
Pippin: "Mist and shadow, cloud and shade..."
Pippin: "Hope [All]l shall fade...All shall fade."
[Denethor eats as the orcs release their arrows. Pippin turns to look at the un-moved Steward. He closes his eyes and swallows the lump in his throat. At the same time Gandalf sits alone in silence on an empty castle yard.]

Dunharrow

[We see how in Osgiliath the troops of Sauron are preparing to attack into Minas Tirith.]
[We then go to King Théoden and Aragorn, on their way to Dunharrow where the army of Rohan is going to camp out on their way to Gondor. The men stand up as Théoden rides past them.]
Théoden: "How many?"
Soldier: "I bring five hundred men from the Westfold, my lord."
Gamling: "We have three hundred more from ???"
Théoden: "Where are the riders from Snowbourn?"
Gamling: "None have come, my lord."
[In the next scene Aragorn walks to stand beside Théoden who is looking down from the landing.]
Théoden: "Six thousand spears. Less than half of what I'd hoped for."
Aragorn: "Six thousand will not be enough to break the lines of Mordor."
Théoden: "More will come."
Aragorn: "Every hour lost hastens Gondor's defeat."
Aragorn: "We have till dawn. Then we must ride."
[Théoden looks at Aragorn and nods. They both turn to look behind their backs. The men are having trouble controlling their horses. Legolas, with Gimli, walks to Èomer.]
Legolas: "The horses are restless...and the men are quiet."
Èomer: "They grow nervous in the shadow of the mountain."
[They both look at the White Mountains.]
Gimli: "That road there; where does that lead?"

Legolas: "It is the road to the Dimholt; the door under the the mountain."
Èomer: "None who venture there ever return."
Èomer: "That mountain is evil."
[Aragorn walks towards the split in the mountain. As the camera zooms into the narrow path, we see the King of the Dead flicker there quickly, then disappear.]
Gimli: "Aragorn."
Gimli: "Let's find some food."
[Before following, Aragorn glances in the direction of the mountain but the King of the Dead is there no more.]

Andúril

[It is night time and we are in Dunharrow, in a tent with Èowyn and Merry. The hobbit is dressed in his Rohan war armour.
Èowyn places a helmet to Merry's head.]
Èowyn: "There. A true esquire of Rohan."
[Merry feels his helmet, an excited smile on his face. He pulls out his sword and Èowyn leans back, startled but laughing.]
Merry: "I'm ready!"
Merry: "Sorry...It isn't all that dangerous."
Merry: "It's not even sharp!"
Èowyn: "Well that's no good; you won't kill many orcs with a blunt blade. Come on!"
[She leads Merry out of the tent. Outside Èomer and Gamling are eating by a fire as Merry lashes air with his sword, Èowyn walking behind him, laughing.]
Èowyn: "To the smithy, go!"
Èomer: "You should not encourage him."
Èowyn: "You should not doubt him."
Èomer: "I do not doubt his heart; only the reach of his arm."
[Gamling laughs at this but Èowyn is serious.]
Èowyn: "Why should Merry be left behind; he has as much cause go to war as you!"
[Èomer is silent and listens to his sister.]
Èowyn: "Why can he not fight for those he loves?"

[The scene changes and we see a mysterious figure, riding up towards the encampment, past the Púkel-men. Inside his tent, Aragorn is sleeping restlessly. He dreams of Arwen, lying on a bed in Rivendell with her eyes closed, looking very ill. ]
[She opens her eyes, her face pale. A quick shot of the entrance to the Paths of the Dead.]
Arwen VO: "I choose a mortal life."
[We see Arwen, lying in Rivendell, a single tear falling from her eye.]
Arwen: "I wish I could have seen him...one last time."
[She closes her eyes and we see Evenstar falling through air and hit the ground, breaking into million pieces.]
[With this Aragorn wakes up and pulls out his sword. He sits on his bed and one of the rohirrim peeks in from the doorway.]
Soldier: "Sir? King Théoden awaits you, my lord."
[Aragorn sighs and gets out of the tent. He follows the soldier into Théoden's tent. Inside is the king and the mysterious person, wearing a dark hood.]
Théoden: "I take my leave."
[Aragorn watches as the person stands up and removes his hood. Aragorn is surprised to see Elrond in Dunharrow. He bows his head.]
Aragorn: "My lord Elrond."
Elrond: "I come on behalf of one whom I love."
Elrond: "Arwen is dying."
[Aragorn stares at Elrond.]
Elrond: "She will not long survive the evil that now spreads from Mordor."
Elrond: "The light of the Evenstar is failing. As Sauron's power grows, her strength wanes."
Elrond: "Arwen's life is now tied to the fate of the Ring. The shadow is upon us, Aragorn."
Elrond: "The end has come."
Aragorn: "It will not be our end but His."
Elrond: "You ride to war but not to victory."
Elrond: "Sauron's armies march on Minas Tirith as you know, but in secret He sends another force which will attack from the river."
[A shot of the Black ships and the Corsairs of Umbar.]
Elrond: "The fleet of corsair ships sails from the South. They'll be in the city in two days. You're outnumbered, Aragorn."
Elrond: "You need more men."
Aragorn: "There are none."
Elrond: "There are those who dwell in the mountain."
[A shot of the King of the Dead. A strong wind suddenly blows in the tent.]
Aragorn: "Murderers. Traitors."
Aragorn: "You would call upon them to fight?!"
Aragorn: "They believe in nothing! They answer to no one."
Elrond: "They will answer to the King of Gondor!"
[With this said, Elrond pulls out Andúril from under his robes and holds it out for Aragorn.]
Elrond: "Andúril - Flame of the West. Forged from the shards of Narsil."
[Aragorn walks to Elrond and looks at the sword. He takes it into his hands.]
Aragorn: "Sauron will not have forgotten the Sword of Elendil."
[Aragorn pulls Andúril out of its sheath.]
Aragorn: "The Blade that was broken shall return to Minas Tirith."
Elrond: "The one who can wield the power of this sword, can summon to him an army more deadly than any that walks this earth."
Elrond: "Put aside the ranger. Become who you were born to be."
Elrond: "Take the Dimholt road."
[Aragorn blinks his eyes and lowers the sword.]
Elrond: "Ónen i-Estel Edain." ['I gave Hope to the men']
Aragorn: "Ú-chebin Estel anim." ['I have kept no hope for myself']
[Aragorn puts Andúril back to its sheath and the scene changes to him, fastening his gear to Brego's back. Èowyn walks to Aragorn.]
Èowyn: "Why are you doing this?!"
Èowyn: "The war lies to the East, you can not leave on the eve of battle!"
[Aragorn looks at the woman.]
Èowyn: "You can not abandon the men."
Aragorn: "Èowyn..."
Èowyn: "We need you here."
Aragorn: "Why have you come?"
[Èowyn is silent for a while and watches Aragorn.]
Èowyn: "Do you not know?"
[They look at each other in silence. Èowyn's eyes glisten with tears.]
Aragorn: "It is but a shadow and a thought that you love."
Aragorn: "I can not give you what you seek."
[Èowyn takes a few steps back, looking heartsick. Aragorn takes Brego and walks away, leaving Èowyn to stand alone, with tears in her eyes.]
[As Aragorn is walking towards the crack in the mountain, he is stopped by Gimli.]
Gimli: "Just where do you think you're up to?"
Aragorn: "Not this time. This time you must stay, Gimli."
[Gimli, however, doesn't agree and they are joined by Legolas, leading his horse with him.]
Legolas: "Have you learned nothing of the subbornness of dwarves?"
Gimli: "Might as well accept it. We're going with you, laddie."
[Aragorn won't argue with this and the three friends leave for the Dimholt road. The men become alarmed as they see
Aragorn leaving. King Théoden comes to see him go.]
Soldier: "Where's he going? I don't understand."
Soldier: "Lord Aragorn!"
Soldier: "Why does he leave on the eve of battle?!"
Gamling: "He leaves because there is no hope."
Théoden: "He leaves because he must."
Gamling: "Too few have come. We can not defeat the armies of Mordor."
Théoden: "No, we can not."
Théoden: "But we will meet them in battle nonetheless."

I would have you smile again

[It is dawn. Èowyn is standing alone outside, watching the sun rise and is joined by her uncle.]
Théoden: "I have left instructions. The people are to follow your rule in my stead."
[Théoden turns around and walks to stand before his serious-looking niece.]
Théoden: "Take up my seat in the Golden Hall. Long may you defend Edoras if the battle goes ill."
Èowyn: "What other duty would you have me do, my lord?"
Théoden: "Duty? No..."
[He walks to Èowyn and takes her hands into his own.]
Théoden: "I would have you smile again. Not grief for those whose time has come."
Théoden: "You shall live to see these days renewed."
[Théoden cups his niece's face and presses their foreheads together.]
Théoden: "No more despair."

The Paths of the Dead

[It is daytime and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are making their way to the Dark Door, the entrance to the Paths of the Dead.]
Gimli: "What kind of army would linger in such a place?"
Legolas: "One that is cursed."
Legolas: "Long ago the Men of the Mountain swore an oath to the last king of Gondor..."
Legolas: "...To come to his aid, to fight. But when the time came, when Gondor's need was dire, they fled..."
Legolas: "Vanishing into the darkness of the mountain..."
Legolas: "And so Isildur cursed them...never to rest, until they had fulfilled their pledge."
[The three of them finally stand before the slope of Dwimorberg, leading their restless horses towards the entrance.]
Gimli: "The very warmth of my blood seems drawn away."
[Legolas stops and stares at the entrance. He reads what is written above.]
Legolas: "The way is shut...it was made by those who are dead...and the dead keep it. They way is shut."
[A sudden blast of wind, mingled with the cries of the dead, coming from inside scares away the horses.]
Aragorn: "Brego!"
[Aragorn turns to look at the entrance.]
Aragorn: "I do not fear death!"
[With this, he walks in and disappears into the darkness. Legolas and Gimli are left behind and watch in terror. Legolas
is the next one to step in. Only Gimli remains outside.]
Gimli: "Well this is something unheard of! An elf will go underground where a dwarf dare not!"
Gimli: "Ahh...I'll never hear the end of it!" [not sure about this]
[Gimli, too, enters the Paths of the Dead.]

[We then go back to Dunharrow where the men prepare to leave in a hurry. Théoden and Èomer come out of a tent.]
Théoden: "We must ride light and swift."
Théoden: "It's a long road ahead."
Théoden: "The men and beast must reach the end with a strength to fight."
[Merry, too, is ready to leave, but Théoden won't take him with them.]
Théoden: "Little hobbits do not belong in war, master Meriadoc."
Merry: "All my friends have gone to battle! I will be ashamed to be left behind!"
Théoden: "It is a three day gallop to Minas Tirith and none of my riders can bear you as a burden."
Merry: "I want to fight!"
Théoden: "I will say no more."
[With this, Théoden rides away, leaving the disappointed Merry to stand and watch as the men ride past him.
But as Merry is standing there, one of the riders, Dernhelm, who is really Èowyn in disguise, picks Merry up from the ground to ride with her.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "Ride with me."
Merry: "My lady?"
Èomer: "Form up! Move out!"
Théoden: "Ride! Ride now for Gondor!"
[We see the host of men ride for Gondor. At the same time, Sauron's huge armies march towards Minas Tirith. They are very close and the air is filled with their battlecries. Huge trolls are beating drums as the troops march forward.]
[We go back to Aragorn, who is making his way forward inside the underground realm, using a torch. Legolas and
Gimli follow behind him. Finally they reach their destination. They stop before the huge double doors and look around.]
The King of the Dead: "Who enters my domain?"
[Aragorn turns around and sees the King appear in front of the steps, leading to the doors.]
Aragorn: "One who will have your allegiance."
The King of the Dead: "The dead do not suffer the living to pass."
Aragorn: "You will suffer me!"
[The King lets out a chilling laughter and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli turn to look around. They see how the dead army turns visible around them and starts to float toward them.]
The King of the Dead: "The way is shut...it was made by those who are dead...and the dead keep it."
[They look around them and see that they are surrounded by the dead.]
The King of the Dead: "The way is shut. Now you must die."
[The King moves towards Aragorn. Legolas immediately fires an arrow, but it flies through the King.]
Aragorn: "I summon you to fulfil your oath."
The King of the Dead: "None, but the king of Gondor may command me!"
[Aragorn readies Andúril for the strike. The King swings his sword but Aragorn blocks the blow and the blade of
Andúril is on the King's neck.]
The King of the Dead: "The bind was broken!"
Aragorn: "It is being re-made."
[Aragorn pushes the King back and the dead remain silent and watch.]
Aragorn: "Fight for us and regain your honor."
Aragorn: "What say you?"
[The dead are silent and watch as Aragorn walks around them, holding out Andúril.]
Aragorn: "What say you?!"
Gimli: "You waste your time, Aragorn! They had no honor in life, they have none now in death."
Aragorn: "I am Isildur's heir. Fight for me!"
Aragorn: "And I will hold your oath fulfilled!"
[The King merely smiles as Aragorn points his sword at him.]
Aragorn: "What say you!?"

The Beginning of the End

[We go to Minas Tirith where the troops of Sauron are standing on the Pelennor Fields, ready for the battle.
A lonely horse gallops toward the gates and a wounded Faramir is being dragged along with the animal.]
Guard: "Open the gate! Quick!"
[We see that Faramir is unconscious and has two arrows pointing out from his chest. The gates are closed and the men bend down to help their wounded captain.]
[Outside the walls the orcs prepare to fire the catapults. The ugly orc leader arrives with a warg and looks around, a pleased expression on his face.]
[Inside the city Faramir is taken to his father.]
Guard: "Quick, hurry!"
[Denethor storms out to the yard and runs to Faramir.]
Denethor: "Faramir!"
[The Gondorian soldiers lower Faramir to the ground, next to the White Tree and Denethor kneels beside him.]
Denethor: "Say not that he has fallen!"
Guard: "They were outnumbered. None survived."
[Farther away Pippin is watching the situation, a frown on his face.]
[On the Fields of Pelennor, the orc leader smells the air.]
Orc leader: "Fear...the city is rank with it."
Orc leader: "Let us ease their pain. Release the prisoners!"
Orc: "Catapults!"
[As the catapults are fired, the people inside the city receive a horrible surprise. The orcs are shooting the heads of the soldiers that rode to Osgiliath with Faramir.]
[Up on the highest level, the grief is getting to Denethor's sanity.]
Denethor: "My sons are spent..."
[The steward steps back from his son and Pippin runs to Faramir.]
Denethor: "My line has ended!"
[Pippin places his hand on Faramir's forehead.]
Pippin: "He's alive!"
Denethor: "The House of Stewards has failed!"
Pippin: "He needs medicine, my lord!!!"
[Denethor won't listen to the hobbit. He is blinded by his sorrow and despair.]
Denethor: "My line has ended!!!"
Pippin: "My lord?!"
[Denethor walks to the edge and looks down. He stares at the mass of Sauron's forces below. The trolls are placing huge boulders into the catapults.]
Denethor: "Rohan has deserted us..."
[The catapults are fired and the boulders hit the city and its towers which come crumbling down. The people start panicking and run out to the streets.]
Denethor: "Théoden's betrayed me..."
[With every line spoken, Denethor's madness and despair seems to deepen. More boulders are fired at the city and civilians are killed.]
Denethor: "Abandon your post!!!"
Denethor: "Flee! Flee for your life!!!"
[The soldiers look at each other, confused. As Denethor turns around, he receives a blow from Gandalf's staff and falls down, unconscious.]
Gandalf: "Prepare for battle!"
[Gandalf rides through the streets with Shadowfax.]
Gandalf: "Pull them in! To the wall!"
Gandalf: "Return to your posts!"
[The fleeing soldiers follow the wizard up to the wall and prepare for battle. Gandalf sits on Shadowfax's back and looks down onto the fields, filled with thousands of orcs and other beasts from Mordor.]
Gandalf: "Send these foul beast into the abyss!"
[The soldiers launch their catapults and fire boulders at the enemy. The orcs watch as the stones land on their fellow fighters and intend to move but their leader won't allow them to.]
Orc leader: "Stay where you are."
[They return the fire and more boulders hit the city of Minas Tirith.]
Soldier#1: "Watch out!"
Soldier#2: "Down to the lower level! Quick!"
[Pippin, wearing his helmet, is running with the flow. More stones are fired at the orcs. Both sides are on the receiving end. As a huge stone is about to land on the orc leader, he stands still until the last moment.]
[He spits on the boulder and at the same moment the Nazgûl arrive with their Fell beasts. They fly and circle around the city, causing lots of damage as they go. We see that the Witch-king of Angmar is with them.]
[The soldiers are terrified at the sight of the Nazgûl and so is Pippin. He covers his ears as the cry of the black riders sounds in the air. At the same time, Gandalf is walking along the wall.]
Gandalf: "Hold them back! Do not give into fear!"
Gandalf: "Return to your post!"
[A boulder hits one of the siege towers, and its passangers fall down. The Nazgûl keep attacking the city and more men end up dead. The Fell beast use their claws to snatch the men and then drop them to the ground. Pippin is terrified and tries to run with the crowd but is pushed down and he falls. On the walls, the archers are fireing their arrows.]
Gandalf: "Aim for the trolls! Kill the trolls!"
[The trolls receive a shower of arrows, but one of the siege towers has been pushed close enough and the orcs start to enter the city through the walls.]
Gandalf: "Fight them back!"
[Gandalf turns around and sees Pippin, walking towards him, looking like he's sleepwalking.]
Gandalf: "Peregrin Took! Go back to the city! Now!"
Pippin: "You called us out to fight..."
[Sauron's troops swarm onto the walls and one of the orcs runs towards Pippin. The hobbit panics but  Gandalf comes to the rescue and fights the orc, saving Pippin.]
Gandalf: "This is no place for a hobbit!"
[Gandalf continues to fight, using his staff and sword. He doesn't see that an orc is about to attack him from behind, but Pippin pulls out his sword and at the last moment, kills the orc. He stares at his bloody sword. Gandalf
turns to look at Pippin, his tone of voice filled with both pride and surprise.]
Gandalf: "Guard of the Citadel in deed! Now back, up the hill! Quick! Quick!"
[Pippin does as he is told and leaves the scene. Outside, on the fields, we see huge, rhino-like creatures pulling Grond, the battering ram. Gandalf sees this from the wall. The look on his face is serious as Grond is pulled towards the gates of the White City.]

Shelob's Lair

[Gollum has led Frodo all the way up to the entrance to Shelob's Lair. He's squatting on a rock, pointing with his hand, telling Frodo to go inside.]
Gollum: "There..."
[Frodo is looking into the dark tunnel, holding his nose. The sound of wind and dropping water can be heard from inside.]
Frodo: "What is this place?"
Gollum: "Master must go inside the tunnel."
Frodo: "Now that I'm here, I don't think I want to."
[Frodo is about to step back and Gollum is getting nervous.]
Gollum: "It's the only way!"
Gollum: "Go in...or go back."
Frodo: "I can't go back..."
[With this, the hobbit hesitantly enters the tunnel. Gollum follows him, pleased that his plan is working.]
Frodo: "What's that smell?"
Gollum: "Orcse's filth...orcses come in here sometimes."
[Inside the the tunnel it's very dark. The walls are covered with sticky web and weird honeycomb-like  shapes in the stone. Frodo stumbles forward and Gollum quickly disappears, so that only his voice is heard anymore.]
Gollum: "Hurry!"
[Frodo's breathing is getting rapid as he realizes that his guide is nowhere to be seen.]
Frodo: "Sméagol??"
Gollum: "...Over here!"
[As Frodo fumbles in the dark, we can see the place is filled with bones. Frodo loses his footing and stumbles. As he leans against the stone wall, he realizes it's sticky.]
Frodo: "Ahh! It's sticky! What is it?!"
[Frodo is scared, the growing panic visible in his voice.]
Gollum: "You will see...Oh yesss, you will see..."
[Frodo stops and looks for Gollum.]
Frodo: "Sméagol? Sméagol!?"
[There is no answer.]
Frodo: "Sméagol!!!"
[Frodo looks around him and sees no one. Tears fill his eyes as he realizes Gollum has lead him into this horrible place and that he is alone.]
Frodo: "Sam..."
[As Frodo remembers Sam, both remorse and hate flash on his face.]
[He steps forward and looks down. The floor is filled with bones. Frodo's breathing starts to quicken and he looks around once more. This time he sees a carcass of a bird, hanging from the ceiling, wrapped inside cobweb.
There are also cobwebbed orc bones hanging next to the bird. Frodo is startled as a menacing growl-like sound is heard from somewhere in the tunnels. Frodo starts to run but he's stumbling in the darkness.]
[The scene changes to a broken hearted Sam who is climbing down the winding stairs. He loses his footing and falls.
Sam lands right next to the Lembas bread that Gollum threw away earlier. He picks up what's left of the Lembas and growls in anger as he realizes what Gollum did. Sam turns and looks up, intending to once more climb up the stairs.]
[We are back with Frodo who is running in the dark tunnels, scared for his life. As he is looking behind his back, he stumbles and falls into a pile of sticky bones. Frodo tries to scramble up but is caught in the web. We can hear
'Shelob's Lair' playing on the background, mingled with Frodo's scared cries as he stumbles in the cobweb and piles of bones. When Frodo's heart is filled with fear and he is lying there, nearly paralyzed, he remembers the Phial of Galadriel.]
Galadriel VO: "And you, Frodo Baggins, I give you the Light of Eärendil, our most beloved star."
[Frodo pulls out the phial, filled with the crystal water. He holds it in his grip and watches as it slowly begins to glow with a pale blue light.]
Galadriel VO: "May it be a light for you in dark places, when all other lights go out..."
[Frodo closes his eyes and calms himself down. He utters out words and shines a light in a dark place.]
Frodo: "Aiya Eärendil Elenion Ancalima!" ['Hail Eärendil brightest of the Stars!']
[As the Phial of Galadriel glows brightly in Frodo's grip, the hobbit slowly turns to look behind his shoulder. He realizes there is something there and jumps up.]
[Frodo is finally met by Shelob and lets out a cry of terror. She swings her front legs and Frodo falls down on his back.
The hobbit uses the Light of Eärendil to keep Shelob away from him.]
[Once again Frodo falls down and Shelob attacks. Frodo is quick enough to pull out Sting and hurt Shelob in one of her legs. This gives him time to get up and flee. Frodo runs in the tunnels, not knowing where he's going, Shelob right behind him.]
[Suddenly he stumbles and falls down on his stomach and rolls down through a hole. Shelob is too big to get through.
Frodo continues to run and keeps looking over his shoulder, this causing him to run straight into one of Shelob's webs.
He gets stuck and hangs in the web, not even his feet touching the ground. Frodo's voice is filled with panic as he realizes what happened. As he wriggles in the web, Gollum lets him know he was the one who lead Frodo into this trap.]
Gollum: "Naughty little fly...why does it cry?"
[Frodo looks behind his shoulder and sees that Shelob is already crawling behind him. Gollum peeks from behind a stone.]
Gollum: "Caught in a web! Soon you'll be...eaten."
[With this, Frodo starts to furiously slash the web with Sting. Gollum realizes the hobbit might get away before
Shelob gets to him and scuttles away. At the very last moment Frodo manages to escape from the web and runs the same way he saw Gollum leave.]

[He is finally outside, but as soon as he lands on the ground, he is attacked by Gollum. Gollum grabs Frodo by his ears and bashes his head into the stone wall.]
Gollum: "Got away, did it, precious!! Not this time!!"
Gollum: "Not this time!!!"
[Gollum tries to snatch the Ring that hangs around Frodo's neck. The moment Frodo sees this, he pushes Gollum away with a sudden rush of anger-given strength.]
Frodo: "No!!!!"
[Frodo attacks Gollum and truly kicks his ass. As Frodo has his hands around Gollum's neck, the Sméagol side comes forth.]
Gollum: "It wasn't us! It wasn't us!"
Gollum: "Sméagol wouldn't hurt Master! We promised!"
[Frodo still has his hands around Gollum's neck, the look on his face angry. But slowly the anger turns to exhaustion and pity.]
Gollum: "You must believe usss! It was the Precious! The Precious made us do it!"
[Slowly Frodo lets go and stumbles back. He sits on the ground and watches Gollum, who is holding his chest, looking miserable. The hobbit stands up.]
Frodo: "I have to destroy It, Sméagol..."
[Gollum looks at Frodo with his big eyes, raising up the hobbit's sympathy.]
Frodo: "I have to destroy It for both our sakes."
[As Frodo starts to walk away, an angry grimace rises to Gollum's face and he quickly gets up and runs after Frodo.]
Gollum: "No!!!"
[He jumps on Frodo and they both fall down, but there is a black chasm right next to them and Gollum falls into it over Frodo's shoulder. Frodo watches him fall and finally gets up. The escape from Shelob and the fight with Gollum have consumed all his strength and Frodo can barely stand, but still, he staggers forward. He stops to lean against the stony wall, his breathing heavy.]
Frodo: "I'm so sorry, Sam..."
Frodo: "So sorry..."
[With this, Frodo loses his consciousness and falls down. But when he hits the ground, he is in the woods of Lothlórien, lying on a soft bed of moss and leaves. Slowly he opens his eyes and sees Galadriel, standing before him.]
Galadriel VO: "This task was appointed to you, Frodo of the Shire. If you do not find a way, no one will."
[Frodo watches as Galadriel bends down with a kind smile on her face, offering her hand. With a determined look on his face, the hobbit takes the outstretched hand and Galadriel pulls him up]
[When Frodo stand on his feet, he is back at Cirith Ungol. With new strength and determition, he continues to walk.]

The Choices of Master Samwise

[We are at Minas Tirith where the siege continues. The huge trolls are pulling at ropes to use Grond. Grond hits the gate of Minas Tirith, but it won't give in yet. Gandalf is riding with Shadowfax, shouting orders to the men.]
Gandalf: "Back to the gate! Hurry!"
[The remaining soldiers hurry to the gate with Gandalf. As Grond keeps hitting the gate, they ready their weapons.
Up in the highest level, Pippin runs past the White Tree and sees the cavalcade that carries Faramir, led by
Denethor. They are on their way to the Silent Street. Denethor pushes open the double doors and steps in.]
Denethor: "No tomb for Denethor and Faramir."
Denethor: "No long, slow sleep of death in balmed."
Denethor: "We shall burn like the heathen kings of old!"
Denethor: "Bring wood and oil!"
[Down at the gate Grond is making progress and the men wait with their spears and shields ready.]
Gandalf: "Steady! Steady!"
[One final hit and Grond breaks through the gate of the White City, its fiery jaws making the men withdraw.]
Gandalf: "You're soldiers of Gondor! No matter what comes through that gate, you will stand your ground!"
[As the gates are opened, huge beasts of Mordor step through and into the city, waving their spiky hammers. The look on Gandalf's face shows surprise and shock. The men have no chance against the big beasts and are quickly smashed and thrown on the walls.]
Gandalf: "Volley!!! Fire!"
[The archers release their arrows, but make little difference. The beasts keep attacking and more men end up dead.
With Gandalf's help, one of the beasts falls down, most likely dead. As the gates are now broken, Sauron's forces storm inside, killing as they go.]
[We are back with Frodo who has arrived at the stairs that lead to the Tower of Cirith Ungol. As he stops to take
a breath and leans against the rocks, the camera angle changes and we see that the threat of Shelob isn't over!
She crawls out through a hole, and down on the ground, Frodo has no idea what's going on behind his back.]
[The hobbit slowly sneaks towards the stairs, making sure it's safe to proceed. Shelob is crawling closer, taking support from the surrounding rocks. She is right above Frodo and he still has no idea what kind of danger he is in.]
[Finally, as Frodo is about to step on the stairs, a sound of falling rocks, coming from behind his back gets his attention. He turns around and scans the area with his eyes but sees nothing. More stones drop and Frodo's breathing is starting to quicken. We see how Shelob lowers her stinger when Frodo starts to turn around.]
[He has no time to react; Shelob stabs him quickly somewhere around his torso and lower body. Frodo lets out a pained groan and jerks from the the hit, but doesn't fall. The look on his face is anguished and shocked as his eyes continue to stare forward.]
[For a while the hobbit stays on his feet. He groans as his mouth fills with foam, Shelob's poison taking effect.
Finally Frodo falls down and Shelob immediately starts to wrap him into a cocoon of cobweb.]
[When we are sure all is lost, Samwise comes to the rescue, holding Sting and the Phial of Galadriel in his hands!]
Sam: "Let him go, you filth!"
[Shelob most likely looks at Sam with her many eyes and lets out a shriek.]
Sam: "Let him go!!"
[As Shelob drops the cocooned Frodo to the ground, a hint of worry flashes on Sam's face. He continues to point the Light of Eärendil at Shelob, determined to save his master.]
Sam: "You will not touch him again!"
[Shelob growls and Sam creeps closer.]
Sam: "Come on and finish it!"
[Sam charges and Shelob attacks as well. Sam manages to slash at one of her legs with Sting, but that won't stop her.
Shelob uses her legs to attack and sends Sam flying through the air. When he hits the ground, the Phial leaves his grip, landing on a spot he can't reach.]
[Shelob comes towards Sam and kicks the Phial even further away. Sam is back on his feet but is pushed down by Shelob.
He's pressed against the rocky wall, fighting with Shelob's huge chaps. He manages to use his legs to kick her, but she soon crawls back up and Sam is pulled down.]
[He falls down to the ground and scrambles back to his feet. Shelob is circling around on the rocks above him and finally jumps back down.]
[Sam is still holding Sting in his hand as Shelob rams him to the ground. Furiously Sam uses the sword and crushes it in the middle of Shelob's head, finally doing some damage. She backs off and Sam follows, trying to hit her again, but this time she manages to get her jaws around Sam's hand. When Shelob finally lets go, Sting flies through the air and lands behind Sam. She trips him down and Sam lands right next to Sting. He reaches for it but
Shelob steps on the blade. Sam turns around and sees that he is about to be stabbed with Shelob's sting. Quickly he rolls to the right and narrowly manages to dodge the sting. Several times Shelob tries to stab Sam, who keeps rolling on the ground, until he finally gets Sting back on his hands. He is lying directly under her stomach and rams the blade through it.]
[Shelob is seriously hurt and starts to wriggle. Sam picks up the Phial and uses it to drive Shelob back to the darkness of her lair. ]
Sam: "Back!"
[Shelob is having trouble staying on her feet, but finally she disappears into her tunnel, never to be seen again.
Sam hurries to Frodo who is still wrapped in the cocoon, lying before the stairs.]
Sam: "Mister Frodo!"
[Sam rips open the web around Frodo's face. His skin is yellowish, lips blue, and his eyes are open, staring into void, surrounded by dark rims. Sam stares at Frodo, shocked.]
Sam: "Oh no!...Frodo!"
[Sam tries to shake Frodo awake, but it's useless.]
Sam: "Mister Frodo!"
[Sam takes the limp Frodo into his arms, tears falling from his eyes.]
Sam: "Wake up!"
Sam: "Don't leave me here alone! Don't go where I can't follow..."
[Sam cries as he watches Frodo's lifeless form in his arms.]
Sam: "Wake up!"
[Sam's face is filled with sorrow as he begins to realize that Frodo isn't sleeping.]
Sam: "You're not asleep...dead!"
[He presses his teary cheek against the crown of Frodo's head and rocks him in his arms.]
[We suddenly see that Sting, lying on the ground, starts to glow blue - orcs are near. Sam is alarmed as he hears voices, coming from the stairs.]
Gorbag: "You get lost, scum!"
[The orcs (I believe two of them might be Shagrat and Gorbag, correct me if I'm wrong.) come down the stairs and spot Frodo, lying on the ground.]
Gorbag: "What's this?"
Gorbag: "Looks like ol' Shelob's been having a bit of fun..."
[Farther away, Sam is hiding behind the rocks and listenes to what the orcs are saying.]
Shagrat: "Killed another one, has She?"
Gorbag: "No...this fellow ain't dead!"
Sam: "Not dead?!"
Gorbag: "She jabs him with her stinger, and he goes as limp as a bonefish!"
Gorbag: "Then she has her way with them...That's how she likes to feed!"
Gorbag: "Fresh blood!"
Gorbag: "Get him to the tower!"
[The orcs leave and take Frodo with them. Sam watches them go.]
Sam: "Samwise, you fool!"
Shagrat: "This scum will be awake in a couple of hours."
Gorbag: "Then he'll wish he'd never been born!"

Ride of the Rohirrim

[In Minas Tirith Pippin runs after Denethor and the cavalcade. We see how the nearly dead Faramir is placed on top of a pyre, yet to be set on fire. Faramir has his eyes closed and is unconscious, but as the men lower him down on the woods, he groans silently, letting us know he is alive. The soldiers bring more wood to the pyre and Pippin sneaks inside.]
Denethor: "House of his spirit crumbles."
Denethor: "He is burning."
[Denethor strokes Faramir's cheek, his face mere inches away from his son's but he either ignores or fails to hear the low groans from Faramir.]
Denethor: "Already burning!"
[Pippin runs to the pyre.]
Pippin: "He's not dead!"
[Denethor glances at the hobbit, a dark expression on his face as Pippin starts to pull at the woods in the pyre.]
Pippin: "He's not dead!!!"
[Denethor comes and grabs Pippin by his collar, dragging the hobbit out of the the Silent Street, ignoring Pippin's struggling.]
Pippin: "No! No! He's not dead! No!"
Denethor: "Hear now, Peregrin son of Paladin...I release you from my service."
Denethor: "Go now and die in what way seems best for you."
[Pippin is thrown on the floor and Denethor closes the double doors, leaving the hobbit outside.]
Denethor: "Pour oil on the wood!"
[Pippin goes to look for Gandalf.]
Pippin: "Gandalf!"
[The soldiers run around the hobbit as he calls for the wizard.]
Pippin: "Gandalf! Gandalf!"
[We see how fiery boulders are catapulted into the city and buildings crumble down.]
Gandalf: "Retreat! The city is breached! Pull back! To the second level!"
[The streets are in chaos, men fleeing, fiery boulders rolling here and there.]
Gandalf: "Get the women and children out! Get them out! Retreat!"
Orc leader: "Move into the city. Kill all in your path."
[We see how the forces of Sauron swarm inside the city, killing soldiers and civilians as they go.]
Gandalf: "Fight! Fight to the last man! Fight for your lives!"
[Gandalf, sitting on Shadowfax's back, stops as he hears a horn blowing on the Fields of Pelennor. Even the orc leader stops and turns to look at what's coming. At the break of dawn arrive the Riders of Rohan. They stop with their horses and stare at the number of Sauron's forces in front of Minas Tirith. We see Èowyn, disguised as Dernhelm, Merry with her. Both stare wide eyed. Èowyn places her arm around Merry.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "Courage, Merry, courage for our friends."
Orc leader: "Form ranks, you maggots! Form ranks!"
[The orcs start to march towards Théoden and his men. He rides in front of the long line of riders.]
Théoden: "Èomer! Take your éored down the left flag!"
Théoden: "Gamling, follow the King's banner down the center!"
Théoden: "Grimbold, take your company right, after you pass the wall!"
Théoden: "Forth! Down fear of darkness!"
Théoden: "Arise! Arise, Riders of Théoden!"
[As Théoden rides past her, Èowyn hides her face.]
Théoden: "Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered!"
[Théoden rides before his men.]
Théoden: "A sword day...a red day...and the sun rises!"
[The riders point out their spears and before the White City, the orc kneel down, doing the same.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "What ever happens, stay with me. I'll look after you."
[The King rides past his men, hitting their spears with his sword as he goes.]
Théoden: "Ride now...Ride now...Ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!"
[He stops and prepares to face Sauron's army.]
Théoden: "Death!"
Rohirrim: "Death!"
[Èowyn takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself.]
Théoden: "Death!"
Rohirrim: "Death!"
Théoden: "Death!!!"
Èowyn and Merry: "Death!!!"
Théoden: "Forth, Eorlingas!"
[As the sun rises, the Rohirrim blow into their horn and they ride.]
Orc leader: "Fire!"
[The orcs fire their arrows and some riders and their horses fall down, dead, but the Rohirrim rides on.]
Théoden: "Death!!!"
Orc leader: "Fire at will!"
[More arrows are shot but the Rohirrim rides on and the look on the orc leader's face turns serious for the first time.
The orcs start to retreat as the Rohirrim rides toward them. Finally they clash. Spears are thrown and orcs get trampled by the horses.]
[Inside the city, Pippin runs to Gandalf.]
Pippin: "Gandalf! Gandalf!"
Pippin: "Denethor has lost his mind!"
Pippin: "He's burning Faramir alive!"
Gandalf: "Come!"
[Gandalf lifts Pippin up and together they leave to help Faramir. At the same time, outside on the Fields of Pelennor the battle between the Rohirrim and the orcs continues. The orcs retreat.]
[We go to Denethor, who is soaking himself with oil, standing on the pyre. He looks down at his son, who is drenched in oil. Faramir's face twitches, but Denethor doesn't pay any attention to this.]
Denethor: "Set a fire in our flesh."
[Denethor stands on the pyre, his son lying on his feet as the soldiers approach them with torches. At the very last moment Shadowfax kicks the double doors open and interrupts the outcome of Denethor's madness.]
Gandalf: "Stay this madness!"
[Denethor snatches a torch from one of the soldiers and turns to look at Gandalf. He throws down the torch and the pyre lights up in fire. Pippin watches in horror and Gandalf quickly takes a spear from one of the guards and rides toward the pyre. He hits Denethor with the spear and sends him flying down to the floor. Faramir remains in the flames and Pippin jumps into the pyre to help him. The hobbit uses all his streght to push the man out of the flames and finally succeeds. Faramir falls down to the ground, Pippin with him. Quickly Pippin puts out the flames in Faramir's clothes, but at the same moment Denethor gets up and in the state of madness attacks Pippin.]
Denethor: "Nooooo!!! You will not take my son from me!"
[Pippin cries out as Denethor, already caught in flames, grips him by his collar. Gandalf quickly interferes and makes Shadowfax hit Denethor with his hooves, sending him into the pyre. As Denethor lays in the flames, he glances at his son and realizes that he is alive. Faramir opens his eyes slightly and watches his father.]
Denethor: "Faramir..."
[As Denethor realizes what he has done, it is already too late for him. He is caught in fire and jumps down from the pyre and runs out of the Silent Street, past the White Tree and down from the edge, falling into his death.]
Gandalf: "So passes Denethor, son of Ecthelion."

I am No Man

[On the fields of Pelennor the fight continues. We see everyone, Théoden, Èomer, Merry and Èowyn use their weapons and orcs fall down, dead.]
Èomer: "Drive them back to the river!"
Théoden: "Make safe this city!"
[Suddenly everything stills. The Mûmakil arrive. Théoden and his men watch as the huge beasts of Haradrim march toward them in a line. One of the Mûmak commanders sounds his horn and the line moves on, toward the city.
The Rohirrim stare at the sight, their horses nervous.]
Théoden: "Re-form the line! Re-form the line!"
[The riders take their position in the line and prepare to fight the Haradrim. The enemy gets closer and the ground shakes.]
Théoden: "Sound the charge!"
[Gamling blows into his horn.]
Théoden: "Charge!"
[As Gamling's horn sounds in the air, the Rohirrim rush toward the enemy. They clash and many riders fall dead as the Mûmakil use their gigantic tusks, covered with spikes, as their weapon. Their huge feet stamp everyting on their way. Men fly in the air and the Mûmakil march forward. The Haradrim shoot their arrows, killing more Théoden's men. The fields are in chaos and the Riders of Rohan are on the losing side. We see Èomer, who stops and turns to face the Mûmak and its commander coming after him. He readies his spear and at the last moment throws it at the Mûmak commander, who falls down, dead. The man doesn't hit the ground, but hangs from his bridle, making the Mûmak turn left. The animal moves blindly to the direction he feels the bridle order him and collides with another Mûmak, causing them both to fall down.]
[We go to Èowyn and Merry who are still together.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "Take the reins! Pull left!"
[She takes Merry's sword as they ride amid the Mûmakil.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "Left!"
[As they ride under one Mûmak's stomach, Èowyn uses the two swords to wound the animal's feet, causing it to fall down.]
Èomer: "Aim for the head!"
[Èomer shoots his arrows and one of the Mûmakil rises to its hind legs, causing its riders to fall down from its back.]
Théoden: "Bring it down! Bring it down! Bring it down!"
[More Mûmakil fall down and the ground shakes. We see how the horse Èowyn and Merry are riding falls down as well, sending Merry and Èowyn flying from its back. A Mûmak is about to fall on Èowyn, but at the last moment she manages to roll away.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "Merry!"
[We see how inside the city the people are running from Sauron's forces as the Nazgûl fly around the city again. Everything looks hopeless as the enemy tries to break the gate the men are defending. Farther away,
Gandalf and Pippin are sitting together, watching the destruction. The hobbit turns to look at Gandalf.]
Pippin: "I didn't think it would end this way..."
Gandalf: "End?"
Gandalf: "No, the journey doesn't end here."
Gandalf: "Death is just another path...One that we all must take."
[Pippin listenes and watches Gandalf, as he continues. All sounds of the surrounding battle quiet down.]
Gandalf: "The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all change to silver glass..."
[There is a little smile on Pippin's face.]
Gandalf: "...And then you see it."
Pippin: "What? Gandalf? ...See what?"
[As Gandalf continues, we can hear the melody of 'Into the West' on the background.]
Gandalf: "White shores...and beyond."
Gandalf: "The far green country under a swift sunrise."
[They both smile as they look at each other.]
Pippin: "Well, that isn't so bad."
Gandalf: "No...No it isn't."
[They become aware of the surrounding battle once more as the enemy bangs at the gate. Gandalf gives the hobbit a little nod and Pippin closes his eyes, tightening his hold on his sword.]
[We go back to the Fields of Pelennor where the Mûmakil and Haradrim continue to cause destruction.]
Théoden: "Rally to me! To me!"
[Théoden stops and slowly turns his head and sees the Witch-king of Angmar flying right toward him. He simply stares as the Nazgûl's Fell beast comes and takes him and his horse with its jaws. Farther away Èowyn watches in horror as the Fell best pulls about her uncle, finally throwing him to the ground. Théoden gets trapped under his horse. The Witch-king guides his Fell beast to the broken King.]
Witch-king: "Feast on his flesh."
[The Fell beast gets closer and Théoden is unable to do nothing but move his arms. He watches as Dernhelm comes to stand between the Nazgûl and the king.]
Èowyn/Dernhelm: "I will kill you if you touch him!"
Witch-king: "Do not come between the Nazgûl and his prey."
[Èowyn stands with her sword ready and the Fell beast attacks. She cries out in pain and manages to slash with her sword, cutting off the creature's head. The now headless beast falls to the ground, the Witch-king still on its back. Èowyn picks up a wooden shield from the ground, preparing to face the Nazgûl. Finally the Lord of the Nazgûl stands up and turns to look at the one who killed his Fell beast. In his other hand he has his sword and in the other, a huge spiky sledge-hammer. Èowyn stares at the weapon in the Witch-king's hand, her eyes wide with fear. Trapped under his horse, Théoden watches as Dernhelm ducks the hit from the Nazgûl's sledge-hammer. Many times the Witch-king swings with his weapon and Èowyn keeps dodging, until it finally hits her shield, shattering it to pieces. Èowyn cries out in pain and falls on her back, holding her arm.]
[We see how at the same time, along the river arrive the Black ships.]
Orc: "Late as usual! Pirate scum! There's enough work here that needs doing."
Orc: "Come on, you sea-rats! Get off your ships!"
[The orcs are in for a big surprise. Instead of pirates, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli jump out from the ship.]
Gimli: "There's plenty for the both of us."
Gimli: "May the best dwarf win!"
[As Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli move on with their weapons ready, the Army of the Dead floats out from the ships.
Together they attack the surprised orcs.]
[We are back with Merry, who is finally getting up from the ground after their horse threw them from its back. He picks up his sword and sees Èowyn, facing the Witch-king alone. Èowyn is still lying on the ground, her back against Théoden's horse. She watches with fear visible on her face as the Lord of the Nazgûl twines his iron fingers around her neck, lifting her up from the ground.]
Witch-king: "Fool...No man can kill me...die now..."
[As Èowyn hangs in the Nazgûl's death-grip, Merry comes forth from behind. He slashes with his sword, hitting the Witch-king in his knee. The Nazgûl lets out a scream, falls to his knees and drops Èowyn to the ground.
Merry cries out in pain and holds his hand.]
[Èowyn gets up to her feet and stands before the Witch-king. She removes her helmet, her long golden hair flowing in the air, finally revealing his true identity.]
Èowyn: "I am no man!"
[With a shout, she crushes her sword to where the Nazgûl's face would be. The Witch-king of Angmar begins to writhe, as if he is being crumpled from the inside and Èowyn lets go of the sword. She falls to her knees and watches as the Nazgûl perishes, his armor falling empty to the ground.]

Death of King Théoden

[On the Fields of Pelennor the fight continues. We are with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. The elf and the dwarf are competing again. Legolas uses his archery skills successfully.]
Legolas:  "15, 16..."
[Gimli does the same with his axe.]
Gimli: "17..."
[Aragorn uses Andùril to kill all the foes that come his way. On the background we can see the Dead Army fighting as well.]
Gimli: "29!"
Aragorn: "Legolas!"
[The elf turns and sees a Mûmak, coming right at him. He seems to take a moment to think, then makes his decision.
He runs toward the beast and swiftly climbs up its spike-covered tusk. As the Mûmak continues to march forward,
Legolas is hanging on his left side foreleg, then swings himself to the hind leg. He uses the arrows, sticking out of the animal's leg, to climb up to its back. Once Legolas is on his feet again, he continues to fire his arrows.]
Legolas: "33, 34..."
[The Haradrim jump down from the platform on the Mûmak's back, but Legolas sends them all down. The elf then grabs hold of the rope that holds the platform and swings on the right side. He cuts the rope causing the platform to fall down, pulling him up to the animal's back. The Mûmak continues to walk and Legolas takes out three arrows and fires them into the animal's skull. This causes its forelegs to give in and it falls down, dead. Legolas slides off the trunk, landing on the ground in front of Gimli.]
Gimli: "That still only counts as one!"
[Aragorn finishes off a couple more orcs and looks over the battlefield. They are on the winning side. We see how on the background the Dead take down a Mûmak and then move into the city. The troops of Mordor have lost the battle.]
[At the same time Éowyn crawls to her dying King, trapped under his own horse. Théoden opens his eyes and looks at his niece.]
Théoden: "I know your face...Éowyn."
[Éowyn smiles, tears in her eyes.]
Théoden: "My eyes darken."
Éowyn: "No...No, I am going to save you."
Théoden: "You already did. Éowyn, my body is broken. You have to let me go..."
[Éowyn parts her lips but says nothing. She continues to stroke her uncle's hair as he speaks.]
Théoden: "I go to my fathers in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed."
[They look at each other and Théoden finally says his last words.]
Théoden: "Éowyn...!"
[Éowyn watches as the King dies. Tears start to roll from her eyes and she presses her head down and cries aloud.]
[The Siege of Minas Tirith has finally ended. The now silent Fields of Pelennor are filled with dead, but finally the clouds part and sunlight hits the ground. We see Gandalf and Pippin make their way to Aragorn. He is standing before the Army of the Dead who wait to be relased.]
King of the Dead: "Release us."
Gimli: "Bad idea! Very handy in a tight spot, these lads, despite the fact they're dead."
King of the Dead: "You gave us your word!"
Aragorn: "I hold your oath fulfilled. Go, be at peace."
[With a peaceful smile on his face, the King of the Dead closes his eyes and he and his men are finally free.
They disappear with the wind.]
[Pippin is walking around the battlefield and suddenly his eyes catch something familiar. The hobbit rushes over to a dead Mûmak, kneels down and moves away a dead orc. Pippin has found Merry. The younger hobbit takes his friend in his arms.]
Pippin: " Merry! Merry, it's me!"
[Slowly Merry opens his eyes, looking very wearied. Pippin is holding him in his arms, crying.]
Pippin: "It's Pippin."
Merry: "I knew you'd find me..."
Pippin: "Yes."
Merry: "Are you going to leave me?"
Pippin: "No, Merry. I'm going to look after you."
[Pippin covers his friend with a blanket and stays by his side.]

The Tower of Cirith Ungol

[We go to Cirith Ungol where the camera zooms into the tower through a small window. Inside lies Frodo, still unconscious, his hands bound and torso naked. The voices of the orcs sound from downstairs and Frodo is lying on the floor. Behind his back are (apparently) Gorbag and Shagrat, going through Frodo's things. Suddenly Frodo's body jerks and he lets out a little moan as his eyes flutter open. He senses the orcs behind his back.
Gorbag is fiddling with the Mithril shirt.]
Shagrat: "Hands off!"
Shagrat: "That shiny shirt! That's mine!"
Gorbag: "It's going to the Great Eye! Along with everything else."
[Frodo's breathing quickens as he is listening to the orcs. He feels his chest and realizes the Ring is gone.]
Shagrat: "I don't take orders from stinking Morgul rats!"
[Gorbag points his weapon at Shagrat.]
Gorbag: "You touch it and I'll stick this blade in your gut!"
[They get into a fight with each other and Frodo lies still. Gorbag falls onto the hole in the floor and Shagrat kicks him through. As Gorbag rolls down the stairs, the other orcs stop what ever they were doing and look up.]
Shagrat: "The scum tried to knife me! Kill him!"
[All the orcs get into a fight. We then go to Sam, who has finally managed to climb the stairs and has arrived at the tower. Holding Sting, he leans against a rock wall and looks into the direction of the tower, listening to the sounds of battle. Slowly he makes his way to the entrance, guarded by the Two Guards. With the help of
Galadriel's Phial, Sam manages to get inside the tower. The orcs have killed each other in their engagement and everything is silent. Sam starts to run upstairs. He stops as he hears orcs ahead, coming down the stairs. Sam gathers up his courage, holding Sting and continues to climb the stairs. His shadow is cast on the wall and Sam growls menacingly. The orcs stop and start to withdraw as they see the shadow on the wall, looking like some great monster. The orcs attack when Sam comes to view and they realize he is just a hobbit. Sam charges and uses
Sting.]
Sam: "That's for Frodo!"
[He continues to fight the orcs and is winning.]
Sam: "And for the Shire!"
[Finally the last orc falls down, dead.]
Sam: "And that's for my old Gaffer!"
[Sam continues all the way up to the highest part in the tower where Frodo is being held captive. We see Frodo, still lying on the floor, half naked. He hears someone climbing the ladder in the hole and starts to fight the binds around his wrists. Finally the orc (apparently Snaga) peeks in through the hole in the floor.]
Snaga: " Stop your squirming, you ??? rat!"
[Frodo turns to face the orc who is climbing up the ladder. Snaga pulls out his sword and Frodo presses himself against the wall, his eyes wide with fear.]
Snaga: "I'm gonna bleed you...like stuck pig!"
[The orc is about to hurt Frodo but suddenly stops, freezing in mid-motion. Frodo watches this, confused.
The blue blade of Sting penetrates Snaga's chest and Samwise comes to view from behind his back.]
Sam: "Not if I stick you first."
Frodo: "Sam!"
[The look on Frodo's face is happy and relieved as he sees his friend has come to rescue him. Sam pulls out the sword and hurries to Frodo.]
Frodo: "Oh Sam, I'm so sorry!"
Frodo: "Sorry for everything..."
[Sam watches Frodo with a kind smile on his face, letting him know he's forgiven. He then starts to remove the binds around Frodo's wrists.]
Sam: "Let's get you out of here."
Frodo: "It's too late...It's over...They've taken It!"
[Frodo sits up, meeting Sam's eyes.]
Frodo: "Sam! They took the Ring!"
Sam: "Begging your pardon, but they haven't."
[Sam stands up and Frodo's confused gaze follows him. From the pocket of his pants, Sam pulls out the One Ring, still hanging from its chain. The call of the Ring immediately sounds on the background as Sam holds It out to Frodo.]
Sam: "I thought I'd lost you...So I took It."
Sam: "Only for safe-keeping."
[Frodo stares at the Ring, his face serious.]
Frodo: "Give It to me..."
Frodo: "Give me the Ring, Sam."
[Frodo starts to lean forward and Sam watches him. Slowly he starts to pull his hand back and brings the othe one up to touch the Ring. On the background, the call of the Ring gets more aggressive and the high-pitched voice gets mingled with low whispering.]
Frodo: "Sam!!"
[Frodo's voice sounds distant to Sam who still holds the Ring as he stares at Frodo.]
Frodo: "Give me the Ring."
[Finally Sam starts to come back to his senses and slowly hands the Ring to Frodo. Quickly Frodo snatches the Ring from Sam's grip. As he puts the Ring and its chain back around his neck, the look on Frodo's face is blissful, as if he's just had a great relief to some withdrawal symptom.]
Frodo: "You must understand...the Ring is my burden."
Frodo: "It will destroy you, Sam."
[Sam watches as Frodo tries to stand up, taking support from the wall.]
Sam: "Come on, Mr. Frodo..."
Sam: "We best find you some clothes. You can't go walking to Mordor in naught but your skin."
[In the next scene the hobbits are walking along a road outside the tower, dressed in orc armour. They finally stop and get a full view of Mount Doom, of Barad-dûr and the Plateau of Gorgoroth, filled with orc encampments.]
Sam: "We did it, Mr. Frodo."
Sam: "We made it to Mordor."
Frodo: "There is so many of them...We'll never get through unseen!"
[Frodo sees the Eye of Sauron, scanning the Plateau of Gorgoroth. He takes a step back, his breathing quick.]
Frodo: "It's Him! The Eye!"
[The hobbits look at each other.]
Sam: "We have to go in there, Mr. Frodo."
Sam: "There's nothing for it."
Sam: "Come on, let's just make it down the hill for starters."

The Last Debate

[We are at Minas Tirith, inside the throne room.]
Gandalf: "Frodo has passed beyond my sight."
Gandalf: "The darkness is deepening."
Aragorn: "If Sauron had the Ring, we would know it."
Gandalf: "It is only a matter of time..."
[All in the room are silent and listen to Gandalf.]
Gandalf: "He has suffered a defeat, yes...But ...behind the walls of Mordor the enemy is re-grouping."
[Gimli, who sitting on the chair of the Steward, smoking his pipe, lets Gandalf know his opinion."
Gimli: "Let them stay there...Let them rot!"
Gimli: "Why should we care?"
Gandalf: "Because ten thousand orcs now stand between Frodo and Mount Doom."
[Once again all are silent as Gandalf walks around the room.]
Gandalf: "I've send him to his death..."
Aragorn: "No...There's still hope for Frodo."
Aragorn: "He needs time, and safe passage across the Plains of Gorgoroth."
Aragorn: "We can give him that."
Gimli: "How?"
Aragorn: "Draw out Sauron's armies, empty His lands."
Aragorn: "Then we gather our full strength and march on the Black Gate."
[Gimli coughs as he hears Aragorn's words.]
Èomer: "We can not achieve victory through strength of arms."
Frodo: "Not for ourselves...but we can give Frodo his chance if we keep Sauron's Eye fixed upon us!"

[Aragorn turns to look at Gandalf as he continues]
Aragorn: "Keep Him blind to all else that moves."
Legolas: "A diversion."
[Gandalf walks to stand beside Aragorn.]
Gandalf: "Sauron will suspect a trap."
Gandalf: "He will not take the bate."
Gimli: "Certainty of death! Small chance of success!"
Gimli: "What are we waiting for?!"
[In the next scene we see how the remaining soldiers of Gondor and Rohan ride out of the White City, Aragorn leading them, his friends by his side.]
[They now leave to the Black Gate of Mordor. The scene changes and we see how Sauron's remaining forces march toward the Gate.]
Orc leader: "To the Gate, you slugs! Move on!"

[Frodo and Sam, still in their orc armour have managed to get down the hill, to the rocky Plains of Gorgoroth.]
Sam: "Look! The orcs! They're moving off!"
[We can see how the orcs are leaving their encampments as the horn sounds from the Black Gate. At the same time the Eye is scanning the area from the peak of Barad-dûr.]
Sam: "You see, Mr. Frodo, some luck at last!"
[The two hobbits continue to travel towards Mount Doom, on the rocky surroundings. At the same time, outside the
Gate, Aragorn leads his men forward and they finally arrive at their destination. The scene goes back to Frodo and Sam who have stopped to take a rest. Frodo is desperately trying to get water from his already empty bottle.
Sam sees this and offers Frodo his own remaining water.]
Sam: "Take mine. There's a few drops left."
[Greedily Frodo brings the bottle to his lips, but only a little water comes out. The air is filled with rumbling sound and the sky is covered with dark clouds. Sam watches the weary Frodo with a saddened face.]
Frodo: "There'll be none left for the return journey..."
Sam: "I don't think there will be a return journey, Mr. Frodo..."
[Frodo turns his face in Sam's direction and the hobbits look at each other, knowing now they will never see the Shire again. Sam gets up on his feet and gives Frodo his hand, pulling him up.]

The Black Gate opens and the Wheel of Fire

[Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the rest of their allies have arrived at the Black Gate of Mordor. The gates are still closed, everything is silent and they wait.]
[At the same time behind the gates Frodo and Sam are getting closer to Mount Doom. Frodo is using his last remains of strength to staying on his feet. His walking is very hobbling and Sam, who is walking behind his friend, can only watch as the Burden Mr. Frodo carries is getting even heavier. With his right hand Frodo is clutching onto the Ring and with his left one, he is lashing the air, as if blocking the strikes of an invisible enemy.]
[The only sounds we hear are Frodo's heavy breathing and a high-pitched sound as the Eye of Sauron is scanning the rocky Plain of Gorgoroth. Suddenly Frodo stops. The Eye is seen behind the hobbits, high up in the peak of Barad-Dûr, finally scanning the area where the two hobbits are standing. Sam sees this and quickly lies down.]
Sam: "Frodo, get down!"
[Slowly Frodo is turning around just as the Eye is about to see him.]
Sam: "Hide!!"
[The Eye hits him and Frodo falls down as if he were dead. Sam watches his friend and calls for him, but can't get
up, for the Eye is still scanning the area.]
Sam: "Frodo!!"
[Frodo doesn't answer him, doesn't even move, just stares forward with terror in his eyes.]
[We are then back at the Black Gate which remains closed.]
Pippin: "Where are they?"
[Finally Aragorn, Gandalf, the two hobbits, Legolas and Gimli and Èomer ride to the gates. At the same time we see
Frodo, still lying on the ground, breathing heavily as the Eye moves around them. ]
Aragorn: "Let the Lord of the Black Land come forth! Let justice be done upon Him!"
[For some time everything is silent and they all watch and wait. Then, the Black Gate finally starts to open. At the same time the Eye leaves and Sam is able to get up. As the gates open, Aragorn and the others are able to see the whole of Sauron's remaining army, marching towards them.]
Aragorn: "Pull back...Pull back!"
[They ride away from the gates and the scene goes back to the hobbits.]
Sam: "It's gone, Mr. Frodo."
[Sam makes his way to Frodo who is slowly starting to get up too.]
Sam: "The Light's passed on, away towards the North. Something's drawn It's gaze."
[Sam helps Frodo up from the ground.]
[We go back to the Black Gate. Aragorn rides in front of the remaining troops of Gondorian soldiers and the Riders of Rohan.]
Aragorn: "Hold your ground! Hold your ground!"
Aragorn: "Sons of Gondor, of Rohan. My brothers."
Aragorn: "I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me!"
Aragorn: "A day may come, when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of Fellowship, but it is not this day!"
Aragorn: "An hour of wolves and shattered shileds when the age of men comes crashing down!"
Aragorn: "But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you, stand, men of the West!"
[The mass of Sauron's army is marching towards them and Aragorn sways his sword, preaparing to face them. At the same time we see Frodo and Sam, climbing up the slopes of Mount Doom with their last remains of strength. Both finally fall down, exhausted.]
[We go back to the Black Gate and see that Aragorn and the others are completely surrounded by Sauron's army. The situation looks hopeless. Aragorn, with Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli by his side watches as the troops march forward.]
[On the other side of the Black Gate Frodo is lying on the rocky ground and even his breathing sounds wearisom. He lifts his face and watches the fiery peak of Orodruin.]
[With a growl he grits his teeth and summons up his last piece of strength and starts to crawl.]
[He clutches onto rocks and pulls himself forward, crawling past Sam who is still lying on the ground. Finally Frodo is spent and he sinks down near Sam, pressing his cheek against the rocks, closing his eyes.]
[At the gate Pippin draws out his sword and with Merry, watches as the troops of Sauron surround them.]
Gimli: "Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf."
Legolas: "What about side by side with a friend?"
Gimli: "Aye, I could do that."
[On the slopes of Mount Doom Sam finally gets up and makes his way to Mr. Frodo. He takes his nearly unconscious friend into his arms, looks up, then lays his teary eyes on Frodo who has his eyes closed.]
Sam: "Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo?"
[Frodo doesn't answer, just groans silently.]
Sam: "It'll be spring soon and the orchards will be in blossom, and the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket."
Sam: "And the whistle in the summer barley in the Lower fields. And eating the first of the strawberries with cream."
Sam: "Do you remember the taste of strawberries?"
[Frodo, lying in Sam's arms, opens his weary eyes, his breathing dry and heavy.]
Frodo: "No, Sam...I can't recall the taste of food...nor the sound of water...or the touch of grass..."
[Sam watches Frodo, tears streaming from his eyes. As Frodo continues, there is panic in his voice.]
Frodo: "I'm...I'm naked in the dark...there's nothing...nothing, no veil between me and the Wheel of Fire!!"
[Frodo watches Sam, his eyes full of fear as he continues.]
Frodo: "I can see Him with my waking eyes!!"
Sam: "Then let us be rid of It! Once and for all! Come on, Mr. Frodo!"
Sam: "I can't carry It for you, but I can carry you! Come on!"
[Frodo watches with wide eyes and clutches onto Sam, as his friend lifts him up and carries him on his shoulders, slowly but surely up the hill.]

The End of All Things

[At the Black Gate, the battle is about to start. The Eye of Sauron is staring straight at Aragorn, calling him.]
Sauron: "Aragorn, Elessar..."
[All the other sounds quiet down as Aragorn slowly steps forward. Gandalf and the others look at him as Sauron continues to whisper at Aragorn. For some time Aragorn stares at the Eye, then, slowly turns around to look at Gandalf and his friends. The look on the wizard's face is serious, but as Aragorn looks at them, a smile rises to his lips.]
Aragorn: "For Frodo."
[With this, he charges toward Sauron's army , Andùril in his grip. Pippin and Merry do the same and the others soon follow. The final battle for Middle-Earth has begun.]
[In Mordor, Sam and Frodo finally arrive at their destination, Frodo still on Sam's shoulders. They can already see the entrance that leads to Sammath Naur, the Chambers of Fire in the heart of Mount Doom.]
Sam: "Look, Mr. Frodo..."
Sam: "A doorway...we're almost there."
[As Sam continues to carry Frodo in his back, we see that the fall earlier didn't kill Gollum after all! He sneaks on the rocks above.]
Gollum: "Clever hobbits to climb so high!!!"
[With this, Gollum jumps on Sam, causing the hobbits to fall down. Frodo tries to get up, but Gollum is all over him, doing everything he can to stop the hobbit from getting up. He starts to choke Frodo with his bony fingers, but Frodo is saved by Sam, who throws a rock at Gollum. As Gollum is getting back to his feet, holding his head,
Frodo coughs and lies on the ground. Gollum has soon regained his strength and tries to attack Frodo again.
Sam stops him by jumping on Gollum and they roll down.]
[The scene changes to the Black Gate where the fight continues. We see how Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the hobbits are using their weapons. As if things weren't bad enough already, the Nazgûl and their Fell beast arrive to make it worse.]
[Up at Mount Doom the battle between Gollum and Sam continues. Gollum grabs Sam by his head and bashes it against the rocks. He then bites the hobbit at his neck and Sam cries out in pain. He manages to hit Gollum's head against the rocks and the creature rolls down. As Gollum is about to attack Sam again, he is wounded by Sam's sword which hits him on his side. Sam turns to look for Frodo.]
Sam: "Frodo!"
[We see Frodo running up the hill, trying to reach the entrance to Sammath Naur.]
[The scene goes back to the Black Gate again and we see how Gandalf succesfully uses Glamdring, his sword. He stops as he sees one of the Nazgûl dive right toward him. Gandalf doesn't move however. He stays still and watches as the Moth flies past him. The Eagles have arrived. Just as the Fell beast is about to get to Gandalf, an eagle attacks it.]
Pippin: "Eagles! The Eagles are coming!"
[Wee see the rest of the eagles arrive and immediately attack the Nazgûl.]
[Back to Sam, who has reached the entrance of Sammath Naur. He runs inside where the ground shakes, making him stagger.]
Sam: "Frodo!"
[As Sam keeps walking, he finally sees Frodo through the mist of smoke and fiery whirl. Frodo is standing at the very end of the ledge, holding the Ring. He turns his face in Sam's direction.]
Frodo: "I'm here, Sam..."
[Sam stops and looks at his friend. The whole area seems to shake and the hobbits are surrounded by swirling fire, the deep rumble of Orodruin sounding in the air.]
Sam: "Destroy It!!!"
[Frodo turns to look at the Ring. He holds out his hand, ready to drop the Ring into the lava below, but the Ring remains in Frodo's hand.]
Sam: "Go on! Now!"
Sam: "Throw It in the fire!!!"
[Frodo keeps holding onto the ring-chain, his eyes staring at the golden object. As Frodo continues to falter with his decision, his breathing gets heavy and tears fall from his eyes. He stares down into the fire, knowing what he must do, but is unable to let go of the Ring.]
Sam: "What are you waiting for?! Just let It go!"
[As Frodo continues to stare at the Ring, as if spell-bound, the Ring calls him for one last time. Frodo's face gets serious. He has made his decision. On the background we can hear a heavy beating sound and the whispers of the Ring. ('One Ring to rule them all' etc. in the Black Speech) Sam watches helplessly as Frodo still refuses to destroy the Ring. Finally the Ring has a complete hold on Frodo. The hobbit stares at it, his eyes glued to the golden object before him. Frodo turns around, his eyes meeting Sam's. Sam watches his friend, already knowing what has happened.]
Frodo: "The Ring is mine."
[With this said, Frodo pulls off the chain and intends to put on the Ring. Sam watches all this, not believing his eyes.]
Sam: "No...No!!"
[Frodo brings the Ring closer to his left hand forefinger. He keeps looking at Sam, an evil smile rising to his lips as he finally puts on the Ring and disappears from sight.]
Sam: "No!!!"
[As Frodo claims the Ring to himself, the Eye of Sauron turns to look into the direction of Mount Doom, knowing what has just happened. The Nazgûl all leave the Black Gate and head for Orodruin.]
[In Sammath Naur we see how the invisible Frodo walks toward the exit, leaving his footprints on the ground.
As Sam looks around, we see that Gollum is standing right behind his back. Before Sam can even notice this,
Gollum hits him in the head with a rock, sending Sam unconscious. Gollum notices the footprints Frodo is leaving. With a furious look on his face, he gets up and jumps on the invisible Frodo. We see them struggle,
Gollum 'floating' in the air.]
[The scene goes to the Black Gate again. Aragorn stops and turns to look behind his back, seeing a huge beast of Mordor, coming right at him. Aragorn uses Andùril against his enemy.]
[Back in Sammath Naur where Sam remains unconscious and Gollum and Frodo fight for the Ring. Sam is slowly coming back to his senses and at the same moment Gollum manages to get a hold of Frodo's hand and forefinger. He sinks his sharp little teeth into Frodo's hand and bites off the finger and the Ring. Frodo is visible again and lets out a cry of pain. As Frodo is on his knees, crying and holding his hand, Gollum gets up on his feet behind Frodo's back.]
[Back at the Black Gate where Aragorn is losing the fight with the huge beast and gets thrown to the ground.
Legolas sees this, the look on his face alarmed.]
[In Sammath Naur Frodo cries in pain and falls to the ground, next to Sam. We see his hand, covered in blood, missing the finger Gollum bit off. Farther away, Gollum holds the Ring above his head, watching it with utter joy. He finally has his Precious back.]
[At the Black Gate, Aragorn is lying on the ground. Slowly he turns his head and sees the huge beast walking right towards him. Legolas is desperately trying to get to his friend but is surrounded by too many orcs.
We can see that he is calling for Aragorn, but the only sound is the music on the background.]
[We see Gollum, holding the Ring between his fingers. He looks around him and finally realizes he has succeedeed.
Farther away Frodo lies on the ground, holding his bleeding hand, watching Gollum rejoice for the Ring.]
Gollum: "Yesss!!!"
[Gollum starts to jump, utterly happy.]
Gollum: "Yessss!!!"
[Even Frodo's hurting hand won't stop him. With an angry grimace on his face he gets ups and starts to walk toward
Gollum. Sam lifts his head, looking at Frodo and Gollum.]
Gollum: "Precious! Precious!"
[Gollum keeps jumping happily, not seeing that Frodo is nearing him. With a heated and an angry look on his face Frodo attacks Gollum, reaching for the Ring.]
[At the Black Gate, the end is finally coming. Aragorn gets crushed under the heavy foot of the Mordor beast.
He takes out his dagger and sinks it into the foot, pressing against his chest.]
[In Sammath Naur Frodo and Gollum continue to fight for the Ring. As Frodo tries to grab Gollum from behind, they both finally fall over the ledge. We see how Gollum falls. As he nears the lava below, he closes his fist and presses the Ring against his chest, truly dying a happy Gollum. As he hits the hot lava he stares at the Ring in his hand, until he finally sinks and disappears. The Ring remains floating on the lava.]
[We finally see that Frodo is still holding onto the ledge as Sam lies down on his stomach and holds out his hand.
He can't reach.]
Sam: "Give me your hand!"
[Frodo stares at Sam, the Ring still floating below him. A beating sound is heard on the background as the inscription on the Ring comes visible.]
Sam: "Take my hand!"
[Finally Frodo tries to reach up with his left hand that's missing the finger. He can't get a grip of Sam's hand and nearly falls, staring down into the lava.]
Sam: "No!!!"
[Frodo turns to look up at Sam, holding on with only one hand.]
Sam: "Don't you let go!!"
[Frodo continues to merely stare at Sam who is offering him his hand.]
Sam: "Don't let go..."
Sam: "Reach!!!"
[As Sam's voice echoes in the chasm, Frodo finally reaches out and this time Sam gets a hold of his hand. We see how the Ring finally melts in the fires of Mount Doom and the Lidless Eye bursts into flames. At the Black Gate all of Sauron's forces flee. Gandalf and all the others turn to look at the destruction of Sauron and his land.
Clouds gather above the fortress of Barad-dûr as the tower begins to fall and crumble down. The Eye burns brightly and glances around as It comes down with the falling peak. We see how Gandalf has a tear in his eye as he watches the End of Sauron. Finally the Eye contracts and in the end disappears with a great explotion, sending a huge pressure wave accross the lands of Mordor. The earth grumbles and cracks, leaving nothing but abyss. ]
Merry: "Frodo!!! Frodo!!!"
[Everyone rejoices and the pressure wave travels on, swallowing all of Sauron's forces into the abyss. The orcs flee as the Towers of the Teeth come crumbling down. We see how Orodruin belches out its fiery contents as it is destroyed. The look on everyone's face darkens as they realize Frodo is there.]
[We see how in Sammath Naur, Frodo and Sam escape. They manage to get out at the very last moment. Hot lava flows out and Sam throws Frodo away from its path. He lands on a rock near by and Sam jumps after him. Sam helps Frodo on his feet and they stare at the destruction of Mordor.]
Frodo: "It's gone!"
Frodo: "It's done!"
[Frodo's voice is filled with relief.]
Sam: "Yes, Mr. Frodo...It's over now."
[Frodo smiles at Sam but they both fall down as the ground shakes. The lava continues to flow around them and fiery boulders fly in the air. Frodo lies down on his back and closes his eyes.]
Frodo: "I can see the Shire..."
Frodo: "The Brandywine River...Bag End...Gandalf's fireworks...The lights in the party tree."
Sam: "Rosie Cotton dancing...She had ribbons in her hair.."
[Frodo opens his eyes and turns to look at Sam.]
Sam: "If ever I was to marry someone...It would have been her.."
Sam: "It would have been her!"
[Sam starts to cry and Frodo gets up and comes to lean against his friend. He twines his arm around Sam and holds him close, their foreheads pressed together.]
Frodo: "I'm glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee...Here at the end of all things."
[The scene ends with the hobbits hugging each other, sitting on the rock and it seems the end has finally come for them. The screen goes black.]
[In the next scene the hobbits are lying on the same rock, surrounded by lava. We then see how the Eagles have come to rescue them, Gandalf with them, riding on Gwaihir's back. The hobbits are picked up from the rock by the eagles and are flown into safety. We see Frodo in Gwaihir's claws, the lava flowing under him. The look on the hobbit's face shows nothing but utter most bliss as it is all finally over. Frodo closes his eyes and when he opens them, he is in a soft bed. He sits up, the singing of a bird sounding on the background.
As Frodo sits on the bed he merely stares. In front of him sits Gandalf. It is the first time he sees the wizard after the events in Moria. A smile rises to Frodo's lips as he continues to stare.]
Frodo: "Gandalf?!"
[Gandalf smiles at the hobbit and the smile soon turns into laughter.]
Frodo: "Oh!!!"
[Both are laughing aloud, nothing but happiness showing on their faces. Then the door is opened and Merry and
Pippin step inside.]
Merry: "Frodo!!!"
[The hobbits run to Frodo and jump into his bed as Gandalf continues to laugh. Merry, Pippin and Frodo embrace, seeing each other for the first time since the Breaking of the Fellowship. The next one to enter the room is Gimli. He waves happily at Frodo from the door.]
Frodo: "Gimli!"
[Gimli laughs and claps his hands, and right after him comes Legolas. He and Frodo smile at each other. Frodo continues to watch as Legolas is followed by Aragorn. He comes to stand beside Legolas, a smile on his face. The Fellowship is assembled again, save for Boromir and one little hobbit. Frodo, sitting on the bed, turns to look as Sam finally enters the room. The smile on Frodo's face fades a bit as his eyes are met by Sam's. They continue to stare at each other, a knowing look on both's faces and finally Sam smiles.]

The Return of the King

[We are at Minas Tirith, on the highest level, in Aragorn's coronation. He stands on the stairs before Gandalf as the wizard places his crown upon his head.]
Gandalf: "Now come the days of the King."
[Aragorn meets Gandalf's eyes and both smile.]
Gandalf: "May they be belessed."
[The wizard steps back and Aragorn takes his place. He takes in a deep breath and then turns around, facing his friends and nationals. Everyone cheers and we can see that even the White Tree is blossoming again.]
Aragorn: "This day does not belong to one man...but to all."
Aragorn: "Let us together re-build this world...that we may share in the days of peace."
[The people appalaud and white petals start to fall from above. We see Èowyn and Faramir in the crowd, standing side by side, happy together. Aragorn starts to sing.]
Aragorn: "Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien...Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta!"
['Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.]
[As the King sings, he steps down the stairs and walks past the people on both sides. We see how Èowyn and Faramir smile at him and bow their heads. Èomer does the same. As Aragorn moves on, he is met by Legolas. The elf is the Prince of Mirkwood and wears a silver crown upon his forehead. They come to stand before each other, and with smiles on their faces, place their hands on each other's shoulders.]
Aragorn: "Hannon le." [Thank you]
[Legolas says nothing, but gives his friend a beautiful smile. He then motions with his eyes for Aragorn to look behind his back. There stands Elrond of Rivendell and beside him is a White Banner, the White Tree of the King embroidered to it. From behind the banner comes forth Arwen. They walk to each other, Arwen's eyes glistening with tears. Aragorn takes the banner from her hands and sets it aside. Arwen lowers her face but Aragorn makes her meet his eyes. For some time they stare at each other, and then Aragorn finally takes her into his arms and kisses her. The crowd appalaud as the happy couple continue to kiss.
Elrond watches his daughter's happiness with a smile on his face, Glorfindel standing behind him.
Arwen and Aragorn stroke each other's faces, staring into each other's eyes and finally Arwen embraces her King, laughing happily.]
[The King and his Queen walk to where the four hobbits are standing in a line. As they bow, Aragorn interrupts them.]
Aragorn: "My friends!"
[The hobbits all look up.]
Aragorn: "You bow to no one!"
[With this, Aragorn kneels before the hobbits and bows his head. The rest of the crowd soon follows their King and the hobbits watch, astonished, as all the people pay homage to them. The camera then zooms away from Minas Tirith and the city changes into a picture on a map.]
Frodo VO: "And thus it was...The fourth age of Middle-Earth began...And the Fellowship of the Ring, though eternally bound by friendship and love, was ended."

The Grey Havens

[The camera continues to travel on the map. From Minas Tirith to the Shire, through all the places the journey took the Fellowship: Moria, Rivendell, Bree etc.]
Frodo VO: "Thirteen months to the day since Gandalf sent us on our long journey, we found ourselves looking upon a familiar sight."
Frodo VO: "We were home."
[We see the hobbits ride back to the Shire, to Hobbiton. They ride past an old hobbit man (Mr. Proudfeet?) who watches them go, having no idea what the four hobbits have been through. The scene changes to Green Dragon.
Frodo brings them all pints of ale and sits down. Frodo looks around. Everything is the same, just as it was before he set out on his long journey to Mount Doom. Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin all look at each other.
Only they know what they've been through and what went on in the outside world. As Sam takes a draft from his tankard, his eyes catch Rosie Cotton, serving at the bar.]
Hobbit: "Good night, Rosie!"
Rosie: "Good night, lads!"
[Rosie gives Sam a quick smile and turns around. This is all Sam needed. He takes a final pull from his tankard, stands up and walks to Rosie. The others watch him go, and as they see what is going on, they burst into laughter.
In the next scene we are at Sam's and Rosie's wedding and see them kiss. They pull apart and turn to look at their guests. Everyone cheers and as Rosie throws her bouquet, it's Pippin who catches it. With the flowers in his hands, he glances at the hobbit woman beside him, giving her a smile. Sam smiles happily and his eyes meet Frodo's.
Frodo returns the smile until it finally fades away as they continue to look at each other.]
[In the next scene Frodo is walking inside Bad End, a mug in his hand.]
Frodo VO: "How do you pick up the threads of an old life?"
Frodo VO: "How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back."
[We see Frodo, sitting in the study, writing into the Red Book.]
Frodo VO: "There are some things that time can not mend. Some hurts that go too deep...that have taken hold."
[Frodo puts down the quill and turns the pages. On the front page where it says
'There And Back Again...A Hobbit's Tale by Bilbo Baggins', Frodo adds 'The Lord of the Rings by Frodo Baggins'.
We hear the door on the background as Sam comes in. Frodo closes his eyes as the Nazgûl-made wound from
Weathertop aches.]
Sam: "Mr. Frodo?"
[Sam comes to stand next to Frodo as Frodo rubs the wound.]
Sam: "What is it?"
Frodo: "It's been four years of the day since Weathertop, Sam...It's never really healed."
[Sam lowers his eyes to the book on the table.]
Sam: "'There and Back Again...A Hobbit's Tale by Bilbo Baggins'."
Sam: "And 'The Lord of the Rings by Frodo Baggins'."
Sam: "You finished it!"
[Frodo closes the book.]
Frodo: "Not quite...There's room for a little more."
[In the next scene it's evening and we see Gandalf arrive at Hobbiton in a carriage.]
Frodo VO: "Bilbo once told me his part in this tale would end...That each of us must come and go in the telling."
Frodo VO: "Bilbo's story was now over."
Frodo VO: "There would be no more journeys for him, save one."
[It is daytime again and Frodo and Bilbo are sitting together inside the carriage. Bilbo looks very very old.]
Bilbo: "Tell me again, lad, where are we going?"
Frodo: "To the harbour, Bilbo. The elves have accorded you a special honor, a place on the last ship to leave
Middle-Earth."
Bilbo: "Frodo, any chance of seeing that old ring of mine again? The one I gave you..."
[Frodo is silent before he gives his answer, remembering the past.]
Frodo: "Sorry, uncle...I'm afraid I lost it."
Bilbo: "Oh...pity..."
Bilbo: "Should like to have hold it one last time."
[Bilbo rests his head against Frodo's shoulder and falls asleep. For some time Frodo continues to think about the Ring, then presses his cheek against Bilbo's forehead and closes his eyes.]
[They have finally arrived at the Grey Havens. We see a blue sky and beautiful tall buildings. You can hear sea gulls on the background. The four hobbits have come to see off Bilbo and Gandalf. Bilbo stops and watches the sight before him.]
Bilbo: "Oh! Well here's a sight I have never seen before!"
[The camera angle changes and we see the last ship, waiting for its passengers. Next to the ship stand Elrond,
Celeborn and Galadriel and Cirdan standing behind them. Bilbo bows his head as he sees the elves and the elves do the same.]
Galadriel: "The power of the Three Rings is ended. The time has come for the dominion of men."
Elrond: "I Aear cân ven na mar." [The Sea calls us home]
Bilbo: "I think I'm quite ready for another adventure!"
[With this, the old hobbit walks into the ship, Elrond with him. Before following, Galadriel looks at Frodo and gives him a smile. Finally the time has come for the hobbits to say goodbye to Gandalf. The wizard turns to face them, leaning against his staff.]
Gandalf: "Farewell, my brave hobbits."
Gandalf: "My work is now finished."
[The hobbits have tears in their eyes as Gandalf continues. Frodo, who is standing behind everyone's back, knows he, too, must soon say goodbye.]
Gandalf: "Here at last, on the shores of the Sea...comes the end of our Fellowship."
Gandalf: "I will not say, do not weep; for not all tears are evil."
[The wizard starts to walk to the ship, but stops and turns around. He is waiting for Frodo.]
Gandalf: "It is time, Frodo."
[All the other hobbits turn to look at Frodo, confused.]
Sam: "What does he mean??"
Frodo: "We set out to save the Shire, Sam...and it has been saved...but not for me."
Sam: "You don't mean that!"
[Sam is starting to cry as he continues.]
Sam: "You can't leave!"
[Frodo hands Sam the Red Book.]
Frodo: "The last pages are for you, Sam."
[Sam stares at Frodo, a miserable look on his face as tears wet his cheeks. Frodo then turns to Merry who is crying as well. They hug each other tightly and Frodo then does the same with Pippin. They part and Frodo finally walks to Sam. With sadness in their eyes, the two hobbits embrace for the last time. Sam cries on Frodo's shoulder and they hold on to each other for a long time. When they part, Frodo kisses the crown of Sam's head. Their eyes meet and linger, until at last Frodo prepares to board the ship. Gandalf holds out his hand and the hobbit takes it. Together they board the last ship as the other hobbits stay behind, in Middle-Earth. As Frodo is walking into the ship, he turns to look at his friends for one last time, the smile of all smiles gracing his face. We see how the ship leaves the Grey Havens and sails into the West.
Merry and Pippin turn to walk away, but Sam remains in the harbour and watches the ship disappear from his sight.]
[In the last scene of the movie, Sam is returning home. He is back in the Shire and we see how his little girl, Eleanor, runs to meet her father. Sam takes her into his arms and together they enter the small garden of their home.]
Frodo VO: "My dear Sam...You can not always be torn in two...You will have to be one and whole for many years."
[Rosie, holding a baby, comes outside]
Frodo VO: "You have so much to enjoy...And to be, and to do...Your part in this story will go on."
[Sam and Rosie kiss.]
Sam: "Well...I'm back."
[The happy family goes inside their little house and Sam closes the yellow round door and that is the end of it. Credits start to roll.]
